Reruns in HD
« on: February 15, 2009, 12:41:21 PM »

How many of you out there are getting reruns in HD? By that I mean shows like Everybody Loves Raymond, Two and a Half Men and Seinfeld.

WUTB, the FOX owned MyNetwork station in Baltimore runs all three. In Philly KYW runs CSI NY, WPHL runs Two and a Half Men and WPSG runs Raymond. There may be more from these stations, but this is what I've seen.  Cool

WUTB just recently turned their DT power up and has long been criticized for being a "cheap" station. IMHO they've made up for lost time.  Cheesy

Just wondering if HD reruns are taking an upturn.  Wink

I'm wondering how you're getting Raymond and Seinfeld in HD, since neither of those shows were shot or produced in HD at any point.

Raymond was on CBS in HD.  Smiley

Seinfeld in HD ...  Cheesy

Seinfeld is the third off-net sitcom to be made available to stations in HD. Warner Bros. has made Two and a Half Men available to stations in HD since its premiere, while CBS Television Distribution started making Everybody Loves Raymond available to stations in HD last March.

Now you need no longer wonder.  Tongue

WKCF runs CSI NY, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Seinfeld in HD

WRDQ runs Boston Legal, CSI Miami, and The House of Payne in HD

The only programs not to get HD clearance here in Orlando are Desparate Housewives (WRBW - Fox owned MyNetwork TV station), Two and Half Men (WRBW), Legend of The Seeker (WKMG), Dr Phil (WKMG)

So how does it look "remastered" in HD? What  did they edit out to get it to 16:9?

And I stand corrected on Raymond, I was under the impression that none of the CBS sitcoms were shot in HD until 2007.

CBS has been doing all of its scripted prime time shows -- comedies and dramas -- in HD for about seven years now.

Here in the DFW area.. KDAF shows 2 and a half men reruns in HD
KDFI shows Raymond and Seinfeld reruns in HD.  I believe they have weekly reruns of Desperate Housewives and American Chopper in HD as well.

If the original show was shot on film it's already in HD.  All they have to do is make a new HD copy of the original film print.  If it was shot on tape the way soaps, old 70's and 80's sitcoms were you can forget it.  Taped shows like "all in the family" etc. always looked like cheap video tape compared to Lucy or Andy Griffith.  The only thing different with a new HD print of an actual filmed TV show is that the aspect ratio would still be 4:3 but the picture would be high definition.  It could only be converted to widescreen unless they cropped the top and bottom off and I wouldn't recomend that.  If the orginal film was actually a little wider and cropped to 4:3 in its original run, they could  put back in some of the sides that were cut off.  I heard the old Star Trek cropped to fit 4.3.

In Wichita:

KWCH has Oprah (first run), Dr. Phil (first run) and Boston Legal (first run weekends) in HD,

KSCW has Oprah (play same show later in the evening after CW programming), Dr. Phil (repeat of last week's first run show), King of Queens and Boston Legal (second run weekends) in HD.
