KXTE Mornings
« on: February 19, 2009, 01:30:06 AM »

Now that Adam Carolla's show is being cancelled who is going to do mornings on EXTREME?

With CBS in format flipping mode (Rhythmic AC to  Spanish AC in Dallas, Hot Talk to Top 40 in Los Angeles, more expected), I wonder if there is any chance KXTE would switch formats now that Carolla will soon be gone?

I haven't seen Las Vegas on the format flip rumor list, only major markets. Is CBS still interested in selling their LV cluster? I haven't seen anything about that in quite awhile. If so, they probably wouldn't want to invest in a format change.

Besides KXTE might thrive with PPM. There are some markets where ALT is doing a lot better with the meter than the diary system, the CC alternative station in Houston certainly comes to mind, the difference is like night and day. Then again there are other markets where alternative/active rock did not see an improvement with PPM.

In the rare event that KXTE uses the Carolla exit as an excuse to flip formats I still hope that it's a KXNT simulcast. Speaking of KXNT, I'm a fan of their newest host Ciara. She is very smart and has a great voice and personality. Most of all I'm in awe that someone from her age group thinks the way she does, I was under the impression that Gen Y is 100% far left wing. The winners of KXNTs radio star contest shows some exceptions do exist.

I heard – and enjoyed- his rant against ranchero and top 40 and his theory that only the stupid love these formats.  It’s sad that CBS nixed this entertaining show.  LA also lost the very good Indie 103.9 in the same month, which I streamed daily to catch Jonesy’s Jukebox, a huge loss.

I have no interest in listening to KXTE’s ear-bleeding noise and could care less if they switch formats.  I turned it off everyday @10 am anyway.  now I have no reason to turn it on at all

What are the chances that KXTE would actually put on a show that originates from Vegas? Their website has a listener poll that asks to help them build the next morning show. With so many other companies going to a national platform for content, would CBS spend the cash to bring in a competitive local show?

Sounds like an interesting and entertaining rant. but I would disagree that "only stupid" people listen to Top 40 or Regional Mexican (or any other format for that matter.)  Besides advertisers don't care about  IQ. My hunch is the AREA 108 audience has one of the higher median IQs of any station in town, yet I doubt there are even close to being one of the top billers.

The music on KXTE is ear bleeding noise to me too. I probably like around 20% of their playlist. I like some of the early 90s grunge and a few select new bands such as Kings of Leon, but I strongly dislike the bulk of what they play, for my tastes it's some of the worst music I have ever heard in my life. But if they are doing well in men 18-34 that's all that matters.   Interestingly when they had Howard Stern they were able to carry over 25-54 males into the music dayparts, no matter how hard the music was.
