WIPS-AM 1250
« on: April 02, 2009, 07:20:15 AM »

I saw on a mention on the gossip site, Topix, that WIPS is broadcasting again.

Is this true? Have they been bought, or are they limping along?

I remember WIPS in Ticonderoga. It was in 1971 when I was working my first job at WFAD AM in Middlebury, VT. FM wasn't existent at that point and we only had a handfull of stations with good talent. In Addison County, we could hear WIPS AM, WVMT AM, WDEV AM, WDOT AM and WSYB AM. Those were the choices we had in Vermont and New York. It was ALL good radio! Am I missing any? Yes, WABC AM skip from NYC, WLW and other giants. You could only pick those station's up at night. WIPS was very local to Ticonderoga and surounding towns. The only thing I didn't like in the 70's was hearing the Obituaries on sunday, read over Funeral music and sponsored by a local Mortician. LOL. Those were the days!!!!!

I suspect WIPS was fired up to keep the license intact. The station went dark about year ago. Are they running at full power or night power ?

I saw WIPS for sale on EBAY last fall, there were no bids on the station and it was pulled.                                                               There is quite a summer audience in the area , its tower is right on Lake Champlain next to Fort Ticonderoga and of course this year is Samuel De' Champlains 600 year celebration so something may be going on .                                                                                     A friend of ours is in the area this weekend I will call to see if he can tune it in and we shall see whats up.
