TransLanTech Still Around?
« on: April 10, 2009, 01:41:24 PM »

Along with myself, I had a couple of facilities interested in their processor one being a school and one a soon to be built station. I emailed an inquiry to their sales email address and haven't heard anything back. I'm know they're not anywhere as big as Orban so I would have thought I would have received a reply, but nothing yet.

I'm looking for recommendations of decent, preferably digital pre-processors as I know I can always pick up some Compellors in a pinch and I'm sure there's always folks selling something on the used market.

Bill,
Thanks for thinking of us!
As you may have noticed by the ads we run at the top of this page, we ARE still around.  Grin

Looks like you letter got caught in our SPAM filter. We're all excited and preoccupied preparing for the annual NAB trek, and while we try to check the SPAM filter every day, sometimes we slip. Wink
Sorry about that!

To answer your question, you can get a loaner Sequel from BGS or SCMS. They both have very competitive prices.

Kind Regards,
David
PS: Glad to know YOU'RE still around, too!
PPS: My personal email address is "David (at) Translantech.com" Anyone on the list should feel free to write me when you have questions or problems.

I hope so.  They’ve had one of my sequels for repair since February!   Huh  Also, I read where there is a new Ariane plus or something coming out at NAB.

Thanks for letting me know, David (usually I'm so focused on board content I somewhat gloss over the ads so I just probably didn't notice them). I probably should have used my own email since I don't think my domain is as susceptible to being filtered as the district's email is.

I know the folks I've talked to love the product which is why I want to at least give one a test spin and see about at least getting one for the test lab. If I can steer one of my project stations toward one I can at least do some real world testing and evaluating.

Per what fm-engineer says, I wonder what the turn-around is when one of these critters have a problem. Also, if there's a "new and improved" unit coming down the pike I would either steer toward the new unit or perhaps look for a better discount on a lower end model, assuming a new product rollout is more than speculation.

I'll tell Radio-Info that readers don't see their ads. Maybe they'll reduce our rate.  Grin

I can't speak for other manufacturers, but almost invariably TransLanTech will Fedex a loaner unit when someone's Ariane gets cranky and needs attention. Even if out of warranty.

The Ariane Sequel continues to be our flagship digital AGC product, and even now there are firmware updates in the pipeline to further refine its capabilities.

Kind Regards,
David

Bill and Dave,

I will attest to the great support of Translantech.  They sent a fex-ex loaner right away.  I was just beginning to wonder since they've had the unit for two months.  The subject of this tread caught my attention.   IMHO, the sequel is the best AGC you will ever find, and I hope they are around for a long time. Trans Lan Tech has some of the best tech support in the industry.  I'd be hard pressed to find anyone better.

That's good to hear, considering I am considering the Sequel as the next choice for a few of the stations I have direct involvement with. My initial concern was the fact that the few other vendors I emailed got back to me within hours (if not minutes) but as David explained my email somehow ended up in their spam filter.

I have heard good things about the Arianne Sequel too. But would it make any difference on an FM station
that's using the lower priced Vorsis VP-8 for processing?

My small market client is real happy with his little Vorsis. But would having an Arianne in the audio chain make a difference in his on-air sound? And if so, what kind of difference? Or would it be overkill?
