99.7 In Marietta...
« on: December 05, 2011, 12:16:21 AM »

This morning at around 12:55AM, I was listening to 99.7 when all of the sudden the station went off the air (during "Sexy and I Know It" by LMAFO.) Right when it went off, another station faded in. At times the station was so strong that it sounded like I was beside the transmitter. This was about .5 miles from the Square in Marietta.

Does any know who I might of been picking up? The songs that were playing weren't the kind that usually are played on 99.7.

Whatever you were hearing, it was assuredly an improvement over "Sexy And I Know It."

Nothing but static on Q100 right now on my iHome. Any chance you were catching the talker on 99.7 out of Nashville? I know there's also an Urban AC on 99.7 from Charleston, but that seems like a stretch...

97.9 and 98.9 were also off the air. It may have something to do with the WCLK multi-plex? Can't go up there to work on it while its on. Wink As I've said before, I have a preset waiting for WCLK's move.

I heard WLWI from Montgomery at 92.3. It could be WOOF from Dothan at 99.7

The last time 99.7 went off the air, I was barely able to pick up hot AC FM 100 out of Memphis. This puts out 300kw but is a stretch at almost 400 miles away. The majority of the time WOOF came in.

Is WLWI a legacy Crosley station?

I guess none of the translators have backup facilities...

Is WLWI a legacy Crosley station?

The call letters, yes, were for a legacy Crosley station in Indy.  The WLWI in Montgomery, however, was not a Crosley station and picked up those calls in 1985, roughly 10 years after Crosley exited the business.

By the way, I actually stand corrected on that.  WLWI 92.3 picked up the calls in '77, which was still after Crosley exited the business and WLWI became WTHR.  So, the FM actually predated the AM with the WLWI calls.

Most likely WOOF from Dothan, AL. This is a solid class C that you can hear well into La Grange with a good radio. 100KW at 1021 feet...amazing booming signal to about 3 states. The memphis 99.7 has a ton of mountains to get through, though possible. I've copied WOOF FM when (back in the day) 99X went off the air for maintenance.
