HELP IDENTIFYING OLD SMOOTH JAZZ SONGS
« on: May 19, 2009, 05:15:00 PM »

Does anyone recognize these songs in the clips?
The first clip is "Ghost Box" by Black Box (I already know that one). What I am wondering is whether or not the clip after "Ghost Box" is a song from a group called Dancing Fantasy or a similar group.
It used to come on the radio a lot long time ago on WNUA 95.5.

2.This next one is the particular musician with a possible "R" name. It's a pop fusion song which features a very high-pitched sax (alto?) and is 2-3 sec. long. It precedes the band Everything But The Girl's "Missing".
I had the name of the trumpeter or saxophonist one time and lost it again. Sad

Thanks Cheesy

The second cut is definitely Donald Harrison's "Tropic of Cool."  Fantastic NAC tune!  Had difficulty with the first (not quite enough to make an absolute determination, but I have some suspicions).  I'll give it another shot.

HAHA! That is IT! Dude, you rock. BTW, if u are wondering I am in my early 20s and have heard this song in the 90s on WNUA in my area. Then one year (2003 or 2002) Dave Koz played it (sometimes he plays old cuts). Wrote the name down and forgot it again and forgot WHERE I wrote it lol.
Heard it one day in Walgreens too. lol

Also have these I forgot to post.

I have 2 New Age music song clips that may be of Yanni's works, because both sound very deep, ambient and symphonic. And I know that Yanni's music is much different than most artists and musicians of the genre (Even John Tesh), his music is more symphonic and orchestral.

So the first clip precedes the version of "Mercy Me" by a group whose name escapes me right now.

The second clip precedes a Latin-vibed joint by Acoustic Alchemy. It is a little slower than the first unidentified Yanni-ish clip and sandwiched in between Warren Hill's version of the Eric Clapton joint "Tears In Heaven". Also you will notice a man saying "1993" after the unidentified clip. I recorded this from a "Timestreams" presentation which is played every year on the anniversary of Smooth Jazz WNUA 95.5. The Timestreams presentation is a 20-21 year span of music from when WNUA began in 1986. *

BTW, each unidentified clips I looked for in Yanni's collection on online stores, Youtube, Imeem, etc. NOTHING. Probably got the wrong composer. Maybe Vangelis? or no? lol

Hi:

That first cut is "The Way I Feel" by Quintana + Speer off of the great CD "Shades Of Shadow"

Chris nailed the second Donald Harrison cut.

LOL, Nock Cheesy!  Nice to have a laugh when it seems we haven't had much to smile about lately.  And why did I think majaman78 would dig that one up? Wink  And to add to the laughter, I just heard Quintana and Speer's "Outward Bound" off of the very same CD!!!  I kid you not!!!

Dude! BIG HUGS! Cheesy Ironically it is on the Rare Requests Smooth Jazz out of print compilation and if I am not mistaken I ran across this on Rick O' Dell's SaxTrax store online, whilst looking for that song and others, no audio samples but a list of the songs from each old and new album on that sight. I prolly shoulda looked further there but oh well. XD I thank you so much for clarifying that for me, you and the dude above you.

Here is a link from Last.fm.
http://www.last.fm/music/Quintana%2B%2526%2BSpeer/_/The+Way+I+Feel

I just clicked on the stream and the melody came back! Buried in the subconscious!
Up until this point I had only remembered what I heard in the clip I posted and few other notes before the music changes. Man it's been a long time.
Isn't it sad this music isn't made as much these days? Just as sad as most of the stations going off the air. Sad

Amazon has third party sources selling the album "Shades of Shadow".
Matter of fact, when I listened to the samples just now on Amazon, I think "Outward Bound" sounded WAY familiar. I think WNUA played that too! (In the 90's!) I forgot about that one!! Cheesy Grin

I also found this 80's computer graphics animated video this guy made with the song. Very cool. Smiley
