More changes for Crain Media stations in LR
« on: August 19, 2009, 07:52:02 PM »

On the way home from work this afternoon, I noticed that K106.3, which was Oldies, is now going by the moniker of "Mix 106" and is playing Adult Contemporary.  The only question I have is why do you have two stations playing fairly similar music(106.3 and 96.5).  What are ya'll's thoughts on the new Mix 106?

If you take two stations like that and tweak them where they are a bit different musically, you can create a "wall of women" affect that will strengthen your share among the female demographic. Then combo sell them based on your market share.

The strategy works just fine for Citadel, which has CHR Alice and AC B-98.5.  I think a more appropriate question is why Crain thinks this will work when Clear Channel tried this exact same format on 94.9, which was one of the best FM signals in the state, and failed miserably with it.  What will Crain do differently?

Also, does anyone else find it a little ironic that the exact same format, even the name and logo, has replaced KOLL at two different frequencies?
