One of many fine print or not even noted points the upstart companies don't reveal when on the hustle for new customers.  People fall for the low rate, then begin to discover the pains of having made the switch.

Actually, you can... It's called dedicated, dry loop or naked DSL.  It used to be the standard for DSL and it's making a comeback now.  just Google on Dry Loop DSL to see what I mean.

Actually, without continuing this off-topic segment too far, SBC doesn't offer that service to residential customers, which is Vonage's target, so it wouldn't help in the example I quoted.
