radio is not your friend, just a pusher of manufactured pop for the urbanite masses in the major markets.

Not true.  At the same time Jones and Haggard were having hits, those same radio stations played Olivia Newton-John and Kenny Rogers.  Nothing has changed.  Just the names.  But back then people were more tolerant of musical diversity.

Not true.  Look at all the guys in big jacked up trucks and cowboy hats blasting Lil Wayne and dubstep music.  They're not sticking to exclusively country.  People were not more tolerant of musical diversity back then either.  You wouldn't catch a country DJ dead playing Tone Loc at a country hall 25 years ago.  Now you hear LMAFO and Maroon 5 mixed in with country music at dance halls.

I cannot stand Jana Kramer's "Why Ya Wanna." I understand the point of saying "why" a lot, but she does so excessively. Roughly 20-21 times, not including background singers. And the song is not good anyway.

It's such a stupid song. I agree.

every few years willie puts out a song that would be a good hit, if it got some rotation.

In this world, with all the competing ways to hear music, you can't force music by a 79 year old singer who's 20 years past his prime on an audience half his age.  Just because you expose people to it doesn't mean they're going to like it.  They have many other options.  Willie gets endless airplay on SiriusXM.  Last night, CMT had him perform "Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die" with Toby Keith, Zac Brown, Darius Rucker, and Jamie Johnson.  Let's see what that exposure in front of a TV audience of about 3 million does.

The real question is: Did YOU watch the CMT Awards?  Of course not.  You won't sit through Rascal Flatts & Lady Antebellum just to hear Willie.  Why should those who love the other acts beforced to sit through Willie?

hey, if these yesteryear artists get name dropped, as if they cool.  why not play em, and introduce your pre pubescent listeners to the masters!

They call it lipservice.  Happens all the time.  People say they like certain things, until it's actually put in front of them.  Then they run away.  Let your grandkids enjoy the music they like.  No need to force what you like on them.

Exactly, just like CHR, AC, Olides and Classic Hits have all had to evolve in order to stay relevant to the listener in 2012, country has done the same...Who would have ever thought you would hear Genesis or Madonna on an Oldies station or Nirvanna or Pearl Jam on a classic Hits station, but it is happening because all formats are "aging" their sound to stay up with the changing audience...I still hear Willie, Waylon and the other "masters" on air, we play them on my station but they are now part of the library and the music that the current 25-49 audience, that all important money demo, wants to hear takes front and center....We either evolve with the audience or we get left behind...

I thought we could rely on Kenny Chesney to at least sound country, but amazingly, a DJ identified a song after it was played as his. It was one of those songs where, if you don't know what kind of station you are listening to, you won't know from hearing the song. It's called 'Come Over".

Conway never cared if a song sounded country or not.  He just wanted it to be a hit.  He usually was right.

I never cared if Conway was country. Sometimes he wasn't. The difference is Conway always sounded good.

Right. But the difference is I only like him when he does. 'When the Sun Goes Down" is an exception.
