What's the best thing you've ever Won?
« on: September 23, 2005, 11:00:24 PM »

I won a NFL Football from Enco Gas (Exxon/Esso) when I was a kid. The U.P.S. man came one dark freezing night with my Football! With that inspiring Football in hand, I always wanted to become a U.P.S. Driver, I was a screwed up kid.

Wow! When you mentioned "Esso", that brought back memories! I had an Esso tanker truck as a little boy.

I won an FM car radio converter from (guess what) an FM station.  My father installed it in the family car (I was 12) and I got to hear FM in the car for the first time.  It lasted as long as the car too.

I also won $100 when I was 14 and the check arrived on my birthday.

A funny thing I won, was when I was 12, I won tickets to an X-rated movie.  A Clockwork Orange. It was violent, not pornographic.  My parents used the tickets for a night out.

A new Car, great prize, and I totally un believe you.  You claim to have won it on a local radio contest, however your email to me claims  "I won a church raffle! My father took care of the taxes and registration, and then he sold it to a relative of ours. The money went towards my college fund."

I have a funny feeling that you didn't even attend College?

Back around 1970 or so I won a transistor radio from WOOW and the local Pepsi distributor.  It was built to resemble a Pepsi vending machine.  It was AM-only,
but surprisingly sensitive for such a little radio.  That Pepsi radio was my main reciever for several years and I still have it.

I worked with someone who won a major prize from WFIL.  She was the receptionist at an office where I worked.  You can bet that she had no other station but WFIL on the radio in the office whenever she was there.

She had won a trip for two to some carribean location in January. WFIL had seen better days by then.

In 1999, I won concert tickets to "Big Stink 4," which was 94-7 NRKs (the former Portland Modern Rock station) summer concert, by being caller number nine.
I would still tell anyone the key to winning a call-in contest is... call in!

If it's the "greatest music ever made," why is it relegated to AM or online only?
