NAC airchecks: KKSF San Francisco, KBLX Berkeley, KOAI Dallas, KSWV San Diego
« on: June 20, 2009, 03:23:57 AM »

This week I had some time to edit and upload some new smooth jazz airchecks.  All of these .mp3's were encoded at 192/44.1.

Here is a recording of KKSF's "Sunday Morning" program, which was recorded on 20 September 1992.  You'll have to thank my girlfriend Elizabeth for this aircheck--she grew up in the Bay Area and two of her friends were regular listeners to the station. They made the recording and gave it to her.  Here is the folder link:

Prior to KKSF, KBLX was the station that was most likely to play contemporary jazz in San Francisco.  The station played slow tempo R&B, and added jazz to the mix in a way that sounded great.  Here are two hours of KBLX, from 28 and 30 July 1983:

On two different frequencies KOAI/The Oasis was part of the Dallas-Ft. Worth market.  This is a recording of three hours of KOAI, all recorded on 13 January 1991, on its original frequency of 106.1 MHz.  Here is the folder:

While KIFM San Diego had been in the NAC/smooth jazz format for a couple of years, it actually had a competitor for a time.  KSWV (102.9 MHz), adopted the format as an affiliate of Satellite Music Network's  version of "The Wave."  This recording was on a cassette that was part of a promotional packet that SMN sent me in 1988.  While I cannot pinpoint the date, I suspect that it was just after Thanksgiving and before December.  That's based on a holiday spot for Alka Seltzer and a promotion for an event that took place in early December.  Here is its folder link:

Recently, I lost some files on my 4shared account because I did not access the account after 30 days.  As a result I am re-uploading those files.  One of the files lost was from The Breeze network.  Most of these files were from the program "The Breeze Special" which was a three hour show sent to affiliates and non affiliates as a weekly show that didn't have a NAC format.  The files that had the program are BZ-1, BZ-3, and BZ-5.  The others were airchecks from the network.  The folder for these files can be found here:

The other Breeze network airchecks can be found here:

I have additional files to upload, but wasn't able to do so due to time constraints.  Those will be added in a couple of days.  I hope you all will enjoy these in the meantime.

Thanks for the airchecks; it is great to hear some of the original NAC/Smooth Jazz radio; if anyone else has additional airchecks please let me know.  Thus far, I have downloaded all of the airchecks that have been posted on this site; I actually have run out of room on my iPOD.
