Looking for an XT2

We have the Texar RCF-1 card for the 8100 and you are welcome to make an offer on it. It's been on the shelf here for at least 8 years. I't doesn't have the face plate but you don't need one any way. The face is only for looks ; ) and you'll have it parked behind that locked door on your 8100. We have a few pairs of Prisms, Gentner and Texar. They are untested and at this age should be re-caped and calibrated.

My suggestion would be to get an Ariane, and get and RCF 1 or 2 card, instead. There are better solutions out there in 2009 than the XT2.

The Ariane Sequel has a preset that sounds similar to the old Prisms.  I believe it is called "stereo bigger."  There is a description in the manual.

At one point I used a pair of Texars in a home-brewed stereo matrix on the air at Z100. Later, I built a matrix with high-pass filters into a box that was installed at a number of European stations I was consulting.

Ultimately, that's where the inspiration for that preset comes from.

I saw one go quickly at a ham swap for $2500 this past year.

You almost buy a 8300 for that money. it's sick. A 8300 doesn't need recapping nor calibratrion.
I agree on the suberb sound of the 8100 XT2, but for that aged technology the price is quite high.
Would love to have an xt2 unit though.

Further proof that audio processing is entirely subjective. After recapping and modification of an xt2, I thought it had a pretty "spongy" sound to it. Could have been a number of things, though. Mainly the music being fed through it (highly clipped modern stuff).

I will say, though, it sounded better than the early Omnia that we had.

Thats not true.. It sounds far from the original prisms. It comes close to the crappy digital Prizm version Gentner made, but thats it.
The decision point to compress, expand or do notthin is FAR better than the ariane in my opinion.

I would choose prisms over the Ariane. But i would prefer the XT2

Agree. The Ariane presets are very different than any generation of Prisms. Maybe that David Reaves will tell us how to make the right setting...
