It's about time!  During a very recent trip to CT, I was checking out a relative's TV/HD box setup and was shocked to see that not one station in the Hartford/New Haven market had news in HD!  In fact, if anything, the news on some HD feeds looked to have been very poorly converted and you could see lines from missing information - as if the original was shot in 480p (Fox 61, this means you).

The omission is particularly jarring during those morning "news" shows like Today and GMA.  WTNH would cut from a nice robust HD GMA feed to a local news cut-in with 1980's quality video.   Very evident, particularly when you're used to full HD as offered in other markets.  Most larger markets have most of their news offered in HD now - at this point the norm seems to be 3 of 4 major channels offering it (Fox seems to usually be last).  And yes, if you have an HDTV, it does make a huge difference.  Zits or no zits.

I'd love to see the NY market stations in HD, but unfortunately my lousy cable provider (guess which one) does not offer the NYC channels in HD, only the Hartford/New Haven ones. And, until this week none of the local news ops have broadcast in HD. Thank you NBC30!!

The studio looks great, its just a shame that none of any of the actual news was in HD.

I can't believe that all the upgrade and thy didn't budget for HD cameras for use in the field.

They even had a segment near the end where Yvonne was giving some lady a tour of the studio and it was played back in standard defintion.

If your going to have a HD newscast, shouldn't more then the anchors and weather be in HD?

No worse than the other 3 "news" stations in the market. They all broadcast tons of fluff. Now, you can see it on WVIT in high definition!

If you missed WVIT's first broadcast in HD this morning, you can check it out on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ifnfD1jtmeo

On Cablevision of CT, we have WVIT, just not in HD.  The NYC stations, well most of them, are in HD.  Now the name NBC Connecticut makes sense.  The only NBC station in the state and gone is channel 30 analog.  One wonders if WTIC-TV will call itself Fox Connecticut?  Though I still call the station Channel 30 or NBC 30 the signal is channel 35.  By the way, the new studio...OUTSTANDING!  Though I get the vibe of those news complexes that WHDH in Boston and WSVN Miami have.

They also have a new announcer.  I think it's the ubiquitous Beau Weaver, ISDNd or MP3d from Hollywood.

WTIC has started calling itself Fox Connecticut, albeit alternately with the Fox 61 branding.

I hate the dual branding. Pick one or the other. It's like how DRC-FM alternates between calling themselves "102.9 DRC-FM" "DRC-FM" and "Hartford's Big D."

NEWS?? in HD?? WHY?Huh  So I can count how many zits the anchors used to have?  Don't like the black bars?  There's a button somewhere called "stretch" or "ratio" or "format" or "zoom" some such to make them go away.

No one but a small circle of friends even cares that the news is in HD.

I agree with you Ron 100%. Oh my god. I just agreed with Mr. WSAH on something. I think I'm losing my touch.  Wink
