IMHO, this is a good move. Unlike a number of other public stations, KERA's financial position is in relatively good shape (in contrast to WQED and WGBH).

The left end of the FM band still has plenty of religious stations remaining, thus the current KVTT campaign of ``Will We Be Silenced?'' strikes me as over the top.

I assume the story had the call sign in error. Will the station be KNXT or KKXT?

I think KVTT's website is to trying to get folk up in arms.  Its unfortunate because the owners sold the frequency.  It would be wise to say that they want their listeners be mad that the format is going away.  Could that be it?

KKXT are the calls reserved.  It could brand as "KXT"...much like the old KKDL went by "106.7 KDL"

Didn't KERA have layoffs this year?  The TV side is running non-stop pledge drives about every 2 weeks it seems now.

KERA's financial health is good relative to other public broadcasters around the country.  It has to be somewhat better than most to spend $18 million on a new radio station.  I still find the whole thing a little odd.  It seems to me they would have had a better ROI by plowing that money into producing TV programming that could have been sold to PBS stations around the country.  Maybe they're just out of ideas for TV programming, but that has never seemed to be the case in the past.

KVTT's webpage states:

``The sale of the 91.7fm frequency is final and the last day of broadcast is set for September 28th...''

What's planned in the interim? Silence, a la WAMO in Pittsburgh or perhaps a month of stunting?
