I remember having a cheap radio as kid that got Kiss 108 at both ends of the dial. Probably some type of circular part in the tuner.

@Nick and everyone else, yes, this is when I was on the bus leaving Wonderland, yes, I got KISS 108 fading in and out on my walkman on the 87.7

When I got home (Salem, Ma) I could not pick up HOT 87.7, on 87.7 was static with music (Mike 93.7)

According to Hot 97 Boston's twitter, WPOT is broadcasting in "HD Digital" on 87.7
Can anyone confirm if there is IBUZ on 87.5 and 87.9?
This must be the first pirate station in HD!

I noticed they were putting HD Digital on their Twitter as well, I figured it was just BS and didn't mention it on the board.

I'm not sure if they're the first pirate to mess around with HD, didn't "VIBE 105.3" the Carribean pirate on 105.3 do some HD expirimenting like three years ago??? Can anyone here help me with that?

I have yet to hear 87.7, hopefully I get to hear it tomorrow, I'll report if I hear any of that.

Is 87.7 in Mono or Stereo?? Someone said something about it being all disorted in Stereo when they first started on 87.7 so they just put it on Mono and it was all fine?

Vibe 105.3 was running RDS, they may still be. 101.3 was as well a couple months ago, but I don't think they are now.

How would the pirates get their hands on an HD exciter? Are the licensed stations just throwing them in the trash because they realize how useless it is?

Hot 877 is in stereo.  The distortion i experience on the radio in one of my vehicles is weird. The signal is strong but the audio is distorted like an analog tuner off its mark a pinch.  This issue is not affected by location either.  However using a microbroadcaster for an mp3 player on the same frequency does *NOT* produce the same effect.   Maybe the techies on here could hypothosize?

They are not broadcasting in Ibiquity HD Radio (tested using an HD radio).  They also are not putting out RDS data.

Without hearing it and by what you described, it sounds to me to be the transmitter itself is off frequency. Even though broadcast transmitters today are wide band it may need to be optimized towards the bottom part of the dial.

They don't operate flatly over the entire band and normally they are optimized before they leave the factory.

I think what they mean by HD is that they have a clear channel now. Ibiquity wouldn't work with this station because first the price is prohibitive and secondly assuming that the analog power is 100 watts the HD power is 10 watts wouldn't work.
If the main channel was digital you would hear hash. RDS would be a classy idea.
