Looks like it's being called "Obama 100.1". What the hell?

Yeah!  now they are playing Hawaiian music.....Fm 100 ......looks like a format flip!   The Bulldog is a great station, I wished they would leave it alone.  It was so much better before they went classic rock though.

Another example of a corporate giant coming into town, taking over a great local station, getting rid of local talent, and importing in a new generic format that worked somewhere else so it must work everywhere. What a shame that one of the greatest towns in America for rock music no longer has a rock station.

They are announcing that they are KCCN FM 100 Honolulu.  http://kccnfm100.com/ ....Then after a couple of songs, they call themselves:
Obama Government Controlled Radio, 100.1 WPUP, Athens, Ga.

"Obama Government Controlled Radio"?

What...did President Obama approve of this? Does he really like "Escape (The Pina Colada Song" Rupert Holmes?

Flip makes no sense to me. With most Atlanta stations booming into Athens, The Bulldog was the only Athens-targeted station for which I particularly cared. I'm bummed that I'll likely have to remove 100.1 from my presets. Rock 100.5 would make a solid substitute with regard to the music mix, but their signal doesn't quite make it this far east.

You know, I really don't mind a HIP FUNKY Old School station (sure beats the tired, worn out "gangsta" blubbering on most so-called "Hip-Hop/R&B" stations today.) But just when you think this station might actually have something going for it, they break in with these KCCN simulcasts. Yes, we know President Obama was born in Hawaii. And Hawaiian music ain't bad. At all. But if you really wanna keep a kickass party mix going, you gotta have SOME continuity.....

The very fact I've been able to name these tunes in the first 10 seconds of their airplay with no virtual/aural assistance speaks well for my pop musical knowledge

Turns out Cox Broadcasting owns both WPUP in Athens and KCCN in Honolulu

http://www.obama1001.com

And then the web feed cuts out. Interesting stunt though...probably the most interesting one I've heard all year. They really should have started this after the election last year......

Hmmm....but from what I read about the President's actual music tastes, they're just a tad more eclectic than THIS (Grateful Dead, Jay-Z, John Coltrane, Metallica, Rolling Stones, Frank Sinatra, U2, etc. Not necessarily the "Jammin' Oldies" sound this station has taken before my very ears...so far.....

Hey you former WPUP listeners,

This new format reminds of a former Jammin' Oldies station we lost up here in Seattle called "95.7 The Beat"

So we'll break even. I'll trade you the now Classic Rock 95.7 KJR-FM for your Obama 100.1.....

If he truly did, he would have annexed Mix 92.9 in Nashville. Wink
