Late Sunday morning is a "Common Time" for transmitter or tower maintenance?  I respectfully disagree.  Transmitters are worked on at night and tower crews do NOT work on Sundays.  Hope you are the engineer of the competition!   HA!  You are probably right about it not being a big deal, but if it was off for more than 30 minutes I'm sure managment would say it was...at least they should!

Tower crews don't work Sundays?

Perhaps you should contact the tower crews I've worked with.

Nearly all of my maintenance is done on the tower on Sundays. As for transmitter work? yes, at night.

But tower crews get $$$ to climb at night if they are willing at all.

Tower Crews get DOUBLE TIME on Sundays!  Good luck on getting the bean counters to pay for THAT!

Maybe it's a good business decision. Shut a station down for a few hours once a week. Conserve on electricity, etc?

Er, once a week?  I don't think anyone implied that engineers would ever do maintenance on a station that required them to shut the transmitter down every week, regardless of the cost.  Owners would sooner burn a transmitter up before that took place.  (In fact, I know one who did! lol)  Roll Eyes

However, if one scheduled their maintenance for the least impact on ad revenue, I'd have to say early Sunday morning through the day would probably be the most opportune.

I was being sarcastic. But didn't Saga shut down WDEA at Midnight every night awhile back to save money?

Stations used to "Sign Off". That could be an option for some.

JYY had a dead carrier for 11 hours.  No one noticed.  No maintenance.  No tower crews.  Just a computer failure with no one in the building and no silence sensor.  Unbeleiveable!

I highly doubt there was no silence sensor.

They used to have one.... why would it go away when the moved to Gilford? I'm sure it was a big problem that could not be solved right away.

Jim and Splicer? Do me a favor, and take your bitching elsewhere.

Thanks.

Saga doesn't own WDEA, it's a Cumulus station.  I think the 910 AM (formerly WABI) signs off at mid-night, or at least it did for a while.
