Christmas radio in Europe?
« on: December 13, 2009, 08:39:02 PM »

I know of one full-time OTA station, actually a temporary station:  Christmas FM in Dublin and Cork, Ireland.  A few terrestrial stations also offer all-Christmas streams on their websites.

Do any other OTA stations do an all-Christmas format in the way that American AC stations do?

Im not sure about all Chritmas, though im sure its done,, ive heard some christmas music on some of the chr stations already,, they seem to be more Christmas friendly on youth stations than here in the U.S... 10-15 yrs ago you could here alot more christmas music on youth stations in America, that isnt so today.  We as a nation are losing our christmas spirit...   I know of the former Radio CDR  Club Dance Radio in Rome Itlay used to air Christmas tunes mixed in with their dance tunes, and they played them till about a week after new years unlike the U.S stations that drop them right after christmas.. Also,   Holiday related.. Radio transylvania a CHR in Romania also gets into the Halloween spirit heavily...  I wish the U.S radio was more like Europe...  More holiday friendly,, more Dance Friendly, and not so much Urban... and little to no country...

Maybe CHR's rarely add holiday music - old or new - as the Christmas music format has become so closely associated with AC and Oldies stations, both of which exist in Europe.  I just wasn't aware of any full-time Christmas formats existing there on the airwaves.  (Several stations have web-only Christmas streams.
