Conditions were right last night DXing I was able to receive WCNZ 1660 "The Avenue" clearly for a little over a half hour....not bad...considering they are supposed to be at 1KW at night and I am in Volusia County (about 250 miles from where they are xmitting from). I know WCNZ/WMYR flipped around the fall of '09 to this eclectic format...is this making any inroads in Naples/Ft. Meyers? http://www.avenue1410and1660.com

No impact to this area what so ever to my knowledge. They would have been better off staying with Scott Shannen's Oldies. I bet half of the population in this area does not even know that these two stations exist.

According to this link http://www.allaccess.com/net-news/archive/story/68863/timeless-cool-music-ready-to-roll this is a new format "Timeless Cool" apparently (definately) not to be confused with "Timeless" from ABC/Citadel. Says the roll out is due 1/25, yet here it is. The timelesscool.com website is not yet active. Interesting choice for these stations. I too preferred the True Oldies Channel but this may work for them. Like SWFL says, they will have to promote the he!! out of them.

No sooner than I hit the send button a banner ad for them appeared here on the R-I page . correction to the website www.timelesscoolmusic.com and it is live. Odd they are imaging it as both "The Avenue" and "Timeless Cool". Steve March Torme did the voice imaging I heard, but he is still listed on the Music of your Life website. Looks like he is holding down two gigs.

I was down in Fort Myers-Naples about a month ago and listened to "The Avenue" a good bit. Nostalgia isn't my usual preference--I tend to listen to news/sports and full-service AC--but I thought it sounded pretty damn good. I'm a 60-year old caucasian guy and my wife and I felt like we were among the younger demos down there, but it wouldn't surprise me if this format caught on in that market.
Sure, it would help if they had it on a Class C FM. But as well as WINK-AM does with their N/T format on the double AM arrangement they have, this thing could survive. Hope they have enough money to get through a long incubation period and enough to promote the hell out of it.
But from a pure programming standpoint, it sounded pretty cool to me. Lot of unfamiliar tunes, but the mix of songs was excellent. I'm guessing it's aimed at upscale sixty-and-seventy-somethings. And in FM/N, that's a very viable target.

I don't know... While I love eclectic music mixes, "The Avenue" does nothing for me. And, annoyingly, most of the music is not identified. No help if you actually wanted to find it somewhere.
They could accomplish the same goal with some more familiar, but not played to death tracks. And, some variety in the commercial voicing, please!
The True Oldies Channel is still on 1480 out of Marco, but the signal is terrible.

For what it's worth, the stations are now using a new URL: http://www.avenuefla.com

Heard the avenue at about two weeks ago here in Cullman, Alabama - Approxamately 650 miles from Fort Myers. The Avenue had a very audible and listenable signal for about thirty minutes or so from around 3:00 to 3:30 AM.

Much livelier sounding than WAVV.WAVV still claims to be top rated, but when is their last listener scheduled to uh...leave? WAVV's signal is among the best and absolutely the best for reaching southeast Florida on chilly morns.
