National rep contracts
« on: January 27, 2010, 01:26:09 AM »

I was just contemplating the following scenario:

Say, someone wants to buy a station(s) whose current representative is Katz and/or its subsidiaries. New station owner has not been known to use Katz as its rep in the past. However, after buying the stations, they switch the rest of the group to Katz.

My question is, is it that hard to buy out of a rep contract, or are the Katz guys doing a good job convincing them to switch?

I've noticed a couple situations in the past few months where this has happened, with longtime Interep/"new McGavren Guild" clients dropping them to join Katz. Is this even good for national rep competition?
