Mel Berman dies at 81; formerly of WMCA & Metromedia in NYC
« on: February 08, 2010, 06:43:52 AM »

"Captain" Mel had most recently hosted a fishing show in Tampa, FL for the past 25 years. He passed on Friday 2/5 after undergoing open heart surgery. Besides NYC & Tampa there were other stops along the way, including Pittsburgh, PA & Kansas City, MO.

Both WMCA and WABC called themselves "Good Guys" at one point. From what Mel told me, it was when they first started calling themselves "The Good Guys" - they were the first.

From reading on another site (or maybe another thread on this site), apparently it was around 1960 that Mel was at WMCA, maybe before the "Good Guys" days, or at least before they became popular (*this info needs verification*).
