Burglary Knocks K-98 Jamz Off the Air
« on: March 06, 2010, 02:15:13 PM »

"A bold burglary knocked a Lawton radio station off the air Friday morning, as workers at Perry Broadcasting showed up to find about $10,000 worth of equipment stolen from their studio near East Lee Blvd. on Flowermound Rd.

The thief or thieves even swiped a computer that keeps K-98 Jamz on the air.

Computers and radio stations, just like most businesses nowadays, go hand in hand.  So when someone stole not just one, but five, computers from the Perry studios Friday morning, it crippled their operations."

In the old days, it would have never happened, as there would likely have been a live jock on overnights.  Perhaps a news staff preparing for the morning news, as well.

True, and back then a entire radio station music library wouldn't fit onto a bunch of hard drives.

Still bad news for Perry!

This just shows the importance of backing everything up.  You can get a 1 Tb hard drive for under $100 now and 2 Tb for under $200.  Back it up and keep it off site.  If 9/11 should have taught us broadcasters anything it should be the importance of off site back up.

The stealing of the tubes for the transmitter sounds a bit suspicious.  Petty thieves have no need for a tube.  I'm wondering if we don't find out in the end that this was somehow an inside job.

Man...  They have had a bad year!  The tower falling over and now this deal in Lawton, plus being off for several days in okc on 103.5...

I hope they nail'em if that's the case.  Since they knocked the station off I hope the remembered to call the FBI.  It's federal to screw with stuff that's on the air...

Intentionally knocking a federally licensed station off the air is a federal offense.

I wonder if there's a hip-hop song about this situation? If not, there should be.
