Whither Nassau?
« on: April 04, 2012, 09:17:40 PM »

Hi beer lovers and whisky rock-and-rollers!

It's been a while!  How's life in market #90?  I'm having a great time roaming the streets as usual.  The economy's picking up, people are drinking better beers, yet deposit is still a nickel?  What gives?  I haven't had a raise in 20 years!

When do auction activities begin for Nassau?  What companies are out there that would purchase all these stations if they are to be all auctioned off at once?  Would the new company have to spin off any Portland stations?  And will they keep the staffs intact or bring their own people/sattelite formats in?  At least the one saving grace is Cumulus can't buy them!

It's been quiet, too quiet!  I hope for the best for anyone who works hard and plays the game right!

Cheers,
OldPort Wino

The auction is scheduled for May 3rd. My impression is that there are a lot of moving parts to the transaction, so I don't think we'll know too much until the dust settles.

Supposedly, its going to be one buyer takes all.  Whoever buys the group will likely spin off some either because they HAVE to or WANT to. Therefore, some stations may be sold twice.

The Bangor Daily News reports that MPBN might be interested in operating the WBACH stations

It is not winner take all, in fact it is quite the opposite, with bids even being accepted for individual stations. However, the auction will progress to bidders for clusters, regions and the whole group. Finally once all of this transpires the creditors can still decide not to sell it to the highest bidder(s) if it is not enough of an offset to the existing debt. So as I said earlier, lots of moving parts.

If the price is right, I could see Townsquare trying to snag Nassau. Otherwise, it might be newer start up broadcast companies buying their first clusters.

I would agree that Townsquare would look good for it, but can they afford it after the Cumulus money?
