Some punk contenders:
"Count" by Jodie Foster's Army, IIRC
"1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-I-can-count-how-bout-you!" (said really fast!)

And these two by the band the Descendents:

"All":
"ALL!"
(That's it. 1 second.)

And, "No, ALL!" Which is something like
"All?
NO, ALL!"
(That's it. 2 seconds.)

Each song is a second or two long

John Lennon's "Nutopian National Anthem" (don't remember the exact title, but it is on Mind Games) was two seconds of silence.  So it's either the world's shortest (or quietest!) song, or it was a "non-song."  Grin

Floating around somewhere in the station on a cart is an 18-second tune by the late Kenny Price.
I don't remember the exact title. It's a country song.

I thought I had posted this earlier, but I had some problems getting it to go through. I can remember as a kid hearing a country song that all it had was the line "This is the shortest song in the world" with a short steel guitar lick at the end, but I couldn't remember the singer or title. Could we be thinking about the same song?

Punk has always been known for it's SHORT songs.

The shortest song I first heard was a punk tune, I can't remember who did it, but it ran for 3 seconds, The lyrics?

"I like food, food is good. I like food, food is good. I like food, food is good."

Then S.O.D. put out a song called "The Ballad Of Jimi Hendrix" (which started with the opening riff of "Purple Haze" followed by the vocalist, Billy Milano shouting "YOU'RE DEAD!" (4 seconds) From their low-fi 1985 politically incorrect thrash metal classic Speak English Or Die.

Seasonal- "The Man With All the Toys"-The Beach Boys was I think 1:28.

The shortest Hot 100 record was "Little Boxes" by the Womenfolk, clocking in at 1:04.

Although I don't listen anymore, Dr. Demento (right after "26 Second Song") played a country song (and I learned it was by Kenny Price, dunno the title), like so:

"This is the shortest song in the world!" (maybe about :25 length in all---kinda long intro!)

Also, didn't Sly & the Family Stone, on the "There's a Riot Going On" LP, have a song on it that claimed :00 on it?  (obviously silence)
