I doubt that Bill's domain extends 215 miles down the Thruway - although that would be great thinking on TownSquare's part. I will say one thing - the quality of audio in Utica is superior to the overcompressed garbage on the air at many Syracuse stations. And that's an example of "damned with faint praise"...

I do agree with you on the overcompressed garbage in the syracus market, all of the galaxy stations sound like crap including 105.1. 93Q and hot 107.9 sound tolerable. I've been up and down the dial but by far I think 104.7 sounds the best, I can even tolerate listening to their stop sets

If the new format is the 3rd string, right wing crap, it's a shame.  Too bad they couldn't come up with something unique and successful on my Ala mater.  Maybe progressive talk or even Radio Disney.  At least there would be an audience.  It might be tiny but certainly be larger than  blowhards Laura Ingrham or Dennis Miller.  They have no ratings ANYWHERE.

Hey Jim-- get REAL!  I'm sure Laura & Dennis get better ratings than Disney... (along with your other choice) and besides, RD's in Syracuse anyway. And when we refer to the "opposite" of "right wing crap", why isn't it referred to by what it is... LIBERAL talk radio. Is someone ashamed to name it as it is? Or is it too embarrassing; so that if someone with an moderate point of view happens to stumble-in, they might not stray if they don't hear the "L" word? Wasn't this concept already tried... with disasterous results??

I am a radio guy and I like money.  If 1150 was my station I would sell my soul to the devil and put Rush & Beck on if they were available but they are not.  I am sure there were no tears shed at WIBX over losing Laura.  They are much better off with Glen Beck. She was on WFBL before and did NOTHING.  If you can present a success story (rating wise) for the 3rd string right wingers, please share it with me.  From what I can see, stations that air those programs don't put a dent in the ratings of the dominate AM talkers in their markets.  If they can nichol and dime to get revenue- good for them.
As far as PROGRESSIVE talk goes at least it's something different and has been successful in markets where it has been promoted on a decent signal.  Disney is shutting off some marginal AM's.  So I don't know if  there would be any interest in Utica.  Might be too small of a market but 1150 does have the signal. It would be a good and easy way to make money as a LMA.
