Tallahassee radio veteran Vic Swan seriously ill
« on: August 05, 2010, 09:57:36 PM »

Some of you old-timers around Tallahassee may remember radio personality Vic Swan, who was part of the "Swan and Jacobs" morning show back on the former WONS-AM 1410. He later worked
at 99.9 and the old Mix 103.1.

Just received word that Vic is seriously ill following two strokes. Please remember him in your thoughts and prayers.

I am so sorry to hear of this. Vic was a respected veteran in the business when I was still pretty new at it and I was priviledged to work with him at FM 99 in Tallahassee. I did mornings with Vic for a little while as his news chick and he and our Tv weather guy (Mike Rucker) called me "Jennifer Juniper" for the Donovan song.
Vic was very good to me when I was young, raw, irreverent and often stupid. God bless Vic Swannnnnnnnnnnnn (as we used to writeas a joke on the number of 'n's people put into his name).

I was lucky enough to have worked with Vic as his PD at FM-99 in Tallahassee back in the early 80's. He was a great human being, and we have kept in touch over the years. Today, I heard the sad news that he had passed. I think anyone who knew him will agree that they are "richer" for making his aquaintance. He was my friend, and I will miss him.

I have recently uncovered some airchecks of Vic and his famous "Brother Vic" sermons that he did for his beloved Seminoles. If anyone would like a copy, please send me an email.

RIP Vic Swan!!

Another good one has passed on. I never met Mr. Swan, but its nice to read all good comments about him. Alan and Jenny - very kind words. Thanks for posting this info.

Al Brock Where are you these days? Nice post, as well.

Good radio people always know when to say good things. THAT DOES NOT CHANGE!

I think Vic would be pleased to know this thread put me back into contact with possbly my favorite PD ever (outside of myself, of course), Albert Broccoli, er,,,AL BROCK!
I think the most fun I had working radio was working for Al.
One of the things Vic and I used to do when Al was out of town for a weekend, or when we pretended he was gone, was have "Boss Be Gone Weekend" and play a few things so far off the play-list that they were album cuts. I remember us playing the original "Ruby Baby" one morning followed up with the Donald Fagen version from Nightfly.
We had a great team back in those days.

Those "boss is out of town" weekends were part of the stuff that made radio fun. I remember them well, and I remember listening to Al on the radio, although I never got to meet him.

I was working the radio station boards so much in those days I actually didn't get
to hear that much radio! But, oh how I loved doing it.

Al is a great guy and I hope you get to meet him. He said something about trying to come down for Vic's memorial service....

Wow...how sad to see Vic is gone. I JUST joined this forum today because I was thinking of him. wow.
When I worked overnights at WBGM (FM99) Vic was always kind funny and treated this newbie really well. He was a blast to be around and a great guy. I am shocked and really saddened to hear of his passing. His was a cheerful face to see in the wee hours after my 12-6a shift was over.  Thanks for sharing the information on here.
