KILT-FM to get new morning crew Monday 11/15
« on: November 12, 2010, 09:56:23 AM »

AllAccess is reporting this morning that KILT will get a new morning show on Monday. Two out of towners coming in for morning drive, with Erin Austin doing mid-days and Rowdy going back to afternoon drive; Cowboy Dave will stay on as an off-air producer for the morning show.

I'm very excited for this new show. Corey Foley is great! Glad she found a job so quickly. I wish her and Greg best of luck!

Greg Thunder is a great guy. I don't see much "Country" programming on his resume so I assume KILT will let Corey lead with Greg being the sidekick.

As I predicted a while ago Rowdy went back to afternoons, Erin landed at middays and Steve Rixx went back to PT just in time for the holiday fill-in shifts.

I'm going to go out on a limb to predict KILT will start to program younger and female. In my opinion it's likely Foley and Thunder will evolve into a show that will stay away from "bits" and focus more on relationship observations, current events and artist info. I suspect we'll hear a lot about Thunder's wife. Sports won't come up more than a mention of the local teams winning or losing and maybe we'll even get some live-local news twice an hour. If they do it right they can clobber KKBQ who's morning show is very staged sounding and relies on bits that aren't funny. KILT has better imaging than KKBQ so I think KILT's TSL will increase if they broaden the play-list and include newer music.

I'm extremely honored to have a position at KILT, that will allow me to work closely with our PD Mark Adams, and my good friend, Rowdy Yates.  As far as I'm concerned, Mark is one of the smartest people, and programmers, that I've ever come in contact with.  I hope some of that rubs off on me.  I have always been a realist in this business, and knew that being on the air would never be my forte'.  I look forward to assisting in the continued success of KILT, and all the CBS Radio Houston stations.  It's a fantastic opportunity for me, and my career.

Hey Steve- No doubt Mark Adams is a smart programmer and I'm sure there will be some terrific changes coming to KILT over the next 6 months. The fact that KILT has become so safe means things can only get better and the station can evolve into something edgier.

Contrary to how sales mangers may feel, live broadcasts from nightclubs do not make a station "Live & Local!" Let's hope Mark is able to make some progress and start a trend in the Country radio arena and at least bring back live morning news briefs. And not the canned crap from KRIV-TV that MIX96 has in the morning. That is HORRIBLE.

Well, I want to say that Rowdy did a fine job of filling that morning slot.  But, maybe he'll enjoy getting to sleep late now.  And some of us who don't get up early will be able to listen to him longer in the afternoons.
