Opie and Anthony
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:33:19 PM »

Radio-Info is reporting that  Steve Carlesi, the PD of the Opie and Anthony show on XM, has left and may not be replaced. The contract for the show will soon be up. Perhaps this is an indication that the budget cutting management of Sirius XM may not be renewing the duo?
Of course O & A had shows for quite a few years on the old WNEW FM, and then K Rock. There seems to be virtually no buzz about them since they left terrestrial radio.

Steve's position was "eliminated" by Sirius.

Also, Opie has been complaining about the offers they're getting on his Twitter page. Ant is staying silent. Sounds like negotiation tactics more than anything. They'll almost surely re-sign for less money, just like Howie will later on this year.

Question O&A have to ask themselves is this..would it be just as easy to go it on their own, or do they wait to see what Stern chooses to do before signing with SiriusXM?  Howard sounds like someone who is looking to leave and start his own thing..

Keep in mind that O&A arrived on satellite radio (XM) long before Stern eventually jumped to Sirius.

Howard can afford to jump to a platform that doesn't make money. Opie just got married and had a kid, and Anthony spends a lot of money on his house, guns and cars. They don't have Howard's "FU" money.

"Keep in mind that O&A arrived on satellite radio (XM) long before Stern eventually jumped to Sirius".

"Howard can afford to jump to a platform that doesn't make money. Opie just got married and had a kid, and Anthony spends a lot of money on his house, guns and cars. They don't have Howard's "FU" money".

That's part of my point...If Howard goes, that opens up a line item..Sirus XM may have no choice but to reup O&A or try to entice Bubba to kill his return to terrestrial radio..

Howard can likely use a variety of advertising platforms to get the word out if he needs to..but what could Opie and Anthony do on their own?  Is their following as devoted as Stern's is?

I think O&A's following is more devoted, but much smaller. Podcasting isn't an option for them. I don't think it's a profitable option for Stern, but he can afford to be in a business that loses money.

Opie and Anthony possible leaving Sirius = Opie radio bit.
« Reply #9 on: September 09, 2010, 06:05:28 PM »

The Opie and Anthony possible leaving Sirius issue this site alluded to is nothing more than a radio bit. Frequent guest and close friend of the show Jay Mohr revealed such today through a couple of messages on his Twitter account. Opie often uses his twitter account to manipulate the few hardcore show followers they have left and has brought Jay into the bit. Jay Mohr tweets read - "jaymohr37 just spoke with @opieradio about the show. that is some crazy shit. freaking shame. : (" Jay then followed up very shortly after that message with "jaymohr37 - Just spoke with @opieradio heard about the show. Holy shit. i'm stunned. : )" It is all a big joke I'm sad, no I'm happy. After Opie and Anthony's last contract negotiation Opie admitted that he personally tried to influence their effort by personally posting messages about their contract negotiations on the New York Radio Board and yes Opie said DCRTV as well. Maybe Opie is jealous that Howard's Sirius negotiation is making headlines while very little has been mentioned in the media about Opie and Anthony's contract renegotiation efforts considering both are coming due at close to the same time. Ron & Fez have been alluding to the bit this week making clear Opie is running a bit again so the fans don't worry. Their fans have now realized Opie is trying to drum up attention during their long scheduled 2 week vacation http://www.wackbag.com/showthread.php?t=127860&page=21 . Opie has done this during other long vacations and it never has turned into anything but an attempt to keep listeners interested in the show while they are away.
