Just picked up WELD 690 Fisher, West Virginia on my car radio here in Bristol, Connecticut. Stock Radio in a 1995 Pontiac Sunfire.
WELD is listed as 3000 Watts Daytime, 500 Watt CH, and 14 watts at night.
This is the first time I've gotten anything on 690 AM at night since Montreal signed off earlier this year!!!! They were very strong and a steady signal. My guess that even though it was 8:00PM they were still on Daytime.

Good catch Marc! You should try for KTSM El Paso, TX on 690. Lawppy, a user from MI has heard this before.

Very likely still daylight at 8PM in WV. They would probably have switched at 8 or 8:15PM but not likely at 8:30. |

When I started in radio in 1967, most broadcast equipment used tube technology, all recorded music was played from records on a turntable by live DJ's, there was no satellite delivery...and radio was fun.

FCC sunset near Dayton OH is 7:45. With WV being further east I've got to think Fisher's sunset is before that.

Wow Oldies...you are correct. I left for vacation & the sun was setting in Indiana around 8:25PM. I figured 15-20 minutes earlier in WV. I come back & the sun is setting here at 7:53PM. My apologies for speaking without first verifying. Now I must go outdoors & enjoy our rapidly exiting daylight hours  . |

The earlier darkness kinda crept up on me too. I imagine Knoxville sunset is close to the same as OH and IN and its pretty dark by 8:15

WELD has post-sunset authority although at the moment I can't confirm that they're using it. Under the PSSA they can run 67 watts from 7:30 EDT (the average local sunset time at Fisher in September) until 9:30 P.M. The same power level applies this month for an hour of pre-sunrise operation from 6 to 7 A.M.

Now that the Montreal station is gone, those of you in the northeast should listen for WOKV Jacksonville during critical hours before they power down.
I used to easily hear them a lot up in New Jersey at dusk back when they were the Big Ape. Once it was completely dark, "poof" they were gone.
