Everyone of those bands except for Train are not pop/rock... especially Smashing Pumpkins...

Not sure what your point is - Blink 182 is pop/rock and Vertical Horizon isn't?  Not really seeing the difference...

You are missing the point and making perfect sense.  It's all about Mike's personal choices, likes and dislikes.  Please do not confuse him with logic.

No, it isn't personal tastes, just examples. If it was my personal taste, I'd rather them be more of a rhythmic leaning CHR with no stupid dayparting. I've studied other CHR stations playlist and see what they play. I have never seen Vertical Horizon currently being played on any CHR's playlist, but have seen Blink 182 played. Those were just examples I could think of off the top of my head from what I've seen on other CHR stations.

I repeat, no CHR is playing Smashing Pumpkins - 1979, Train - Drops of Jupiter, Vertical Horizon, Crazy Town, etc. Why Q100 is playing them makes no sense, especially when there are many more RELEVANT and SENSIBLE choices out there.

What do all of the these top 40 stations have in common?

WLAN
WHTZ
WFLY
WEZB
WKSS
WNTO
WIHT
WHBQ
WRVW
WFBC
WHHY
WSPK
WKCI
WRUF
WDJQ
WIOG
WWST
WWWQ

They all played Smashing Pumpkins 1979 in the last week.  (Did you see WHTZ Z100 New York on that list?!?!?)

I will patiently await your apology Mike.  Either you were not being truthful or your studies of CHR playlists were limited.  Please stop saying it's not your personal opinions about these songs you call out.  It is purely about what you want to hear.

It took me all of 3 clicks to find these BTW.

Happy Holidays!

Smashing Pumpkins - 1979 is not even on Z100's playlist. I lived in NY for 2 years (about 3 years ago) and listened to Z100 all the time, and I still frequently listen to Z100 when I am at work or at home and have never heard them play it, nor have I heard them play Vertical Horizon, etc. When did they play it? And what did you use to find this out? I check yes.com pretty frequently (not just Z100, but other major market CHR's) and have never seen it played.

Also, how many of those stations you listed are Cumulus stations?

I'm not sure if any are Cumulus stations and I'm sorry you can't accept facts.

I really don't have time to continue this anymore and do your homework for you.  Just because you listen to a station a lot doesn't mean you know every song.

Sucks to be wrong.  And you are.

I asked what you used to find that out. I think it is a fair question.

Mediabase.  Fair question.

You also said you had never heard it.  Avoidance.

I guess it really doesn't matter because you are completely welcome to your own opinion.  We all have that right.  My problem has been you propose your opinion as fact going as far to say no other CHR in America plays 1979 which is just blatantly wrong.

And once your facts are proven wrong, you have no leg to stand on.  Your choice going forward is either admit you're wrong or rationalize it away.  Which again, becomes you expressing opinion as fact.

There's not problem having an opinion.  My point is, and always has been that you blur the two.  Then you move into Q100 smoking crack.  And that's just wrong.

I would prefer not be drawn into this discussion anymore.  It's already gone on too long because it's been difficult to let you have the last word. Which is probably just a lame excuse on my part.  But I'm going to try to be a big boy myself and let you have it have the last word on this one.

In the interest of full disclosure, "1979" played on most of those stations during Backtrax USA. VERY different from playing in the regular gold category during weekday middays. Z100, Hot 99-5, 107.5 The River and nearly all other major market CHRs would never touch that song otherwise, and as much as I personally love the song, Q100 shouldn't either. Same goes for some of the other golds in their rotation (All Saints, Vertical Horizon, Stereo MC's...)

Aside from that, their music is leaps and bounds ahead of where they were two years ago, but they're frankly no Z100...or even a Kiss 95.1 or XL 106.7. Nothing personal, Nyte Ryder...they just aren't there in my opinion. They're successful in the ratings because they're Atlanta's only Top 40 station and Bert is huge, but that doesn't mean they're a remarkable station by any means. They miss out on some quality music (including some of the songs Mike listed) and the station has little depth after 10:00.
