WWZN - SNR Boston Dumps Local Shows
« on: October 28, 2005, 03:14:55 PM »

From Boston.com:

There will be no more local programming on WWZN (1510 AM).

Clancy Woods, president of Sporting News Radio, said last night that the company would have an announcement today, and according to industry sources, SNR is prepared to replace Eddie Andelman and company with its nationally syndicated lineup.

Andelman returned home from Aruba last night to find a phone message calling for a mandatory meeting at WWZN today. He had come back specifically to do his 2-4 p.m. show today as a Breeders' Cup preview from Suffolk Downs.

Eddie Andleman was allowed to do a farewell show on Boston's WWZN-1510 yesterday afternoon (November 3rd). Although I live near Boston, I didn't get to hear it.

A little bit of locally-produced programming that appeared on WWZN because their producers bought airtime on the station (football games of Harvard University and some local Boston-area high-schools) will continue on a short-term basis, until the end of the season for these teams. In 2006, these brokered football broadcasts may move to other stations.

WWZN is also Boston's home for radio broadcasts of NASCAR stock-car racing; in 2006, I would expect that NASCAR will move to WKLB-99.5 since it is a country-music station and in many other markets, NASCAR is broadcast on country-music stations.

I don't know how long Sporting News Radio itself will be around. Before long, WWZN will probably be running leased-time ethnic programming. And not long after that, the station could be put up for sale.
