Fidel and Raoul paying royalties to iBiquity for HD-AM?  THAT would be the day.

I'm sure their ancient noise generations also are more reliable than the AM IBOC equipment, considering how often American HD AM stations go off. Wink

Many of them sound better on the air too.

I'm in El Cajon, CA, and 1580-KMIK is very likely my strongest nighttime station here (that's not usually received in the daytime, although within several weeks either side of the winter solstice it can make an occasional appearance around local noon.  They are about 299.67 miles from me at a heading of 79.39°, blasting 3,458.76mV/m @ 1km toward me at night.  Earlier this evening I actually saw KMIK peg the digital signal strength meter at 63,25 on my Tecsun PL-380, using only its built-in loopstick antenna. Hi

KMIK & KBLA were both huge tonight. KMIK was flashing the "HD" logo. Even a faux CALL SIGN came up on the display!!! "OFMN" was displayed instead of "KMIK"   Shocked - so at least I got some sort of PAD data, even if not correct  Grin

receiver: Sony XDR-F1HD HD radio / 200m longwire

dxer2_2000 @ Numeralla NSW Australia (100km or so south of Canberra)

dxer2,

Do you ever get any North American stations on the lower end of the MW band or is it just the stations on the higher frequencies?

Cuba should just get HD transmitters for the frequencies it jams. Instead of us knowing that Cuba is the source of jamming, all we would hear is IBUZ. Plus they can jam the entire AM band with IBUZ so that no news from the US makes it to Cuba. Let them broadcast the IBUZ with 5 million watts and it'll jam AM reception all over the world.

We don't need Cuba to jam the AM band, we're doing it ourselves with HD radio.

5 million watts!  Gosh, that's almost enough to make AM HD work.  Cheesy

Stations on the low end are much harder but the more common one heard is KNBR 680. I've also heard 710 KIRO, 570 KLAC, 740 KRTH, 660 WFAN to name some.

Is 760 KFMB San Diego, CA, USA possible there?  It's 50kW directional with a lotta power aimed out that way.  Their transmitter site is about 7.3 miles from me at a heading of 320°, and they are the strongest nighttime station here.
Also what about 640 KFI Los Angeles?  It's not exactly a local for me, but does come in fairly well throughout the day.  I'm basically right at the zone of their groundwave coverage where it equals their skywave signal, or at least is within a few dB or so.  And is 580 KMJ Fresno possible there as well?  It's 50kW, directional with a lot of power aimed due west.
