KMIK HD radio reception in Australia

Stations on the low end are much harder but the more common one heard is KNBR 680. I've also heard 710 KIRO, 570 KLAC, 740 KRTH, 660 WFAN to name some.

KLAC is 5kW - That's incredible! WFAN - that's about 10,000 miles ~ 16,000 kM. What time of year did you hear WFAN? What local time of day for you to hear it on this path? That's nearly 12 time zones! Was there any sign of KTNN from Window Rock, AZ when receiving WFAN?

Also what about 640 KFI Los Angeles?  It's not exactly a local for me, but does come in fairly well throughout the day.  I'm basically right at the zone of their groundwave coverage where it equals their skywave signal, or at least is within a few dB or so.  And is 580 KMJ Fresno possible there as well?  It's 50kW, directional with a lot of power aimed due west".

I have heard 760 KFMB & 640 KFI but they are rare. Splash from nearby aussies makes life tough. I've heard bits of KMJ but never an ID. Its hard gettig IDs now, since many may only ID once an hour (usually TOH).

Most US stations are heard between 0700 ~ 1000 UTC. The W calls are very rare catches & I normally hear them around Oct/Nov,  west coast is best around march & Latin America usually best in April/May.

That's incredible that you heard WFAN. I'm truly amazed!

I have confirmed about a dozen reception reports of WYSL from Norway and Finland - 500 watts DA-N, 4 towers with a very narrow northeast lobe.  DXers have mailed cassette and CD recordings - and sure enough, it was there.

That doesn't surprise me. Several 250 & 500W stations in the midwest have been heard in Norway & parts of Europe. However, getting the east coast of the US in Australia is amazing!

Yes it is, it's very difficult to even get a west coast station here on the east coast now and vice versa. When I first started DXing during the winter of 76-77, the clears were truly clears and could be had with patience, my first night DXing I got KSL Salt Lake city on 1160 on my RCA console 811K here in MA with a 400' LW and patience. I just sat on the frequency from about 12 am to 1 am until I heard it slowly fade up, it was the only station on that frequency at night.

In the 60s it was even easier with all the clear channels. You didn't even need a great antenna to DX cross country. Now it's a whole different game
