EAGLES MNF GAMES MOVE TO PHL-17
« on: November 09, 2010, 11:25:44 AM »

Dancing With The Stars wins out over the Eagles. Monday night's game against the Redskins will air on PHL-17 with 6ABC producing the pre-game show. This will also be the case for the Birds's Dec. 2 game and that is on a Thursday night.

What would be pathetic is if the programming that would normally air on My PHL 17 would get better ratings than the games!

Too bad Live Well TV isn't down converted to SD cable boxes for Fios and Xfinity.  If this was the case, channel 6 could keep the game on 6.1 and put the ABC programming on 6.2.  Channel 6 could use 6.2 the way channel 3 uses 57.  Local Action News on 6.2 while GMA is on 6.1?

FIOS and Comcast do carry the digital sub-channels for all the terrestrial stations in the region (except channel 69).  And, don't forget, both carry ESPN.

That said, everything old is new again.  Time was when channel 17 was picking up ABC shows WPVI didn't want on a regular basis.  Even ABC doesn't want Monday Night Football, that's why they pushed it off onto ESPN.

6.2 is only on HD Comcast and HD Verizon boxes.  It is not down converted to SD the way the rest of the HD ota channels are.

Interesting. Can't help but think the decision on this was made in New York. ABC got rid of MNF because the ratings were falling, outside the markets of the teams playing each week. So Disney's thinking was move it to ESPN, so the national rating doesn't hurt abc, but still keep (atleast for the O&O's) the high ratings the teams playing bring to whatever city. Thus Philadelphia, NY, and other ABC O&O markets would still get the 2 or 3 great MNF ratings a year, but lose out on the other 14 or so average games.

BTW its kinda werid seeing both ch6 & ch10 promoting PHL17 programing (ch10 just the game itself, no pregame). I wonder if this is a sign of things to come for MYPHL17. Not sure when their current deal with nbc10 ends, but I could see them dumping that (and in return NBC10 moving its 10:00Pm broadcast to nonstop) for Action News at 10:00 which would instantly double ratings (might even beat FOX)...assuming ch6 wants to get in the whole 10:00 broadcast.

Does Tribune even want to be in tv anymore?  Tribune could sell WPHL to Disney?  Move channel 17 into that brand new WPVI bldg.

Interesting to see the Action News Big Board on channel 17.  Pregame produced by channel 6, postgame produced by channel 17 with Tolly and then I assume the news produced by channel 10 was on after it (pre-recorded?)

Actually, no...Entourage was scheduled at 11:30PM after the game with Curb Your Enthusiasm to follow at Midnight.  If you wanted NBC10 news last night, you could switch from the game at 11PM to NBC10.
