Back to what Holland wrote:

Countrymen, brothers, all-on-the-same-team.
We envy 'em

While these guys were still underground, it occurred to me that if, say, one in four or one in five of them had subscribed to the libertarian or tea party philosophy, all of them would have ended up as toast.  This should have conveyed a message to Americans who cry "socialism" every time they see an effort to work for the common good.

Have you actually been to Europe?  On my last two visits there, I was stunned both at the cost of living and at the government regulations that people have to endure.....

There is no way Europeans enjoy the same quality of life as we do.

They must be absolutely crushed by not having to be just one major sickness away from the threat of bankruptcy.

Seems like you can call local hosts jerks, wife beaters, drug users, drunks, insane, but discussion of the comments made by right wing national hosts THEMSELVES gets TIO.

It's only CALLED "Free Speech"
« Reply #33 on: November 16, 2010, 07:29:53 PM »

So as long as the FCC allows such talk on the radio, and Rush has an audience that wants it, and advertisers who'll support it, he will continue.  That is the price of freedom of speech.  Sometimes people say things that are offensive.  A person with any real class wouldn't have to do that in order to have a successful radio show, but there will always be those who will stoop to a low to gain ratings and popularity.

AMEN.
Well said!

Actually, you make three important points:

1.  About the-FCC-permitting-such-talk: The FCC really DOESN'T want to get involved with content, as you'll hear a commissioner explain: http://getonthenet.com/McDowell.mp3

2.  About Limbaugh's audience: A 5 Share makes him the biggest star in Talk Radio.  The other 95% of listening is elsewhere.

3.  Bring up The First Amendment, and, invariably, someone will talk say you-can't-get-a-little-pregnant, and someone else will bring up shouting-FIRE-in-a-crowded-theater.  It's only CALLED "Free Speech."  The cost is that everyone-gets-to-talk.  Limbaugh, Skinheads, the Klan, Anita Bryant, everyone.  The real freedom is freedom-not-to-listen.

How can a President who escalates a war and keeps most Bush-era policies in place be a Socialist ?! Shows the mentality of Rush and his fellow-Father Conklin/Joe Mc Carthy minions and the sizable members of the public (and on this board) he's been able to convince to vote against their best interests.

I'm sure all those millionaires will create tons of jobs with those tax breaks...like they always do. Maybe Rush will hire another gardener or save his money for when his latest wife gets sick of his mental defects translated into politics and divorces his fat swarmy ass.

I guess if you've likely been stoned when doing your show for most of your career (you think the drugs war off for three hours ?!) you can come up with almost anything and convince yourself it makes sense.  Ditto for ex-alcoholic and former daily pot smoker Glenn Beck.

History will not look kindly on them and their horrible horrible minions.

I guess that means that Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Ho Chi Minh were not socialists.

Matt,

Please tell us where you went to school and studied political science. I want to make sure none of my grandchildren, neices, nephews or any other human being that I can influence doesn't go any where near where you went to school. By any chance were you there on an athletic scholarship?

To correct the fallacies you were taught, "dictator" refers to the means by which a government exerts power. "Socialism" refers to what the government uses its powers to bring about. It is quite common to encounter socialist dictators, including Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot and Ho Chi Minh.

And remember, communism is a specific form of socialism. All communists are socialists, but not all socialists are communists.
