I never heard the Annie Lennox song until a station in my area that planned to do ABC Stardust couldn't get permission because of a nearby affiliate. The station owner hated AM Only so he went with Jones soft AC instead. It was terrible considering what I was hoping for. Especially since these lyrics were in the second song I heard. They're just unpleasant.

I could probably like the Level 42 song except the original version is no longer played. Everyone wants to do a dance remix.

The Wang Chung song I liked when I heard it on a TV show.

As for Laura Branigan, I'd just as soon forget about her. But I remember how she performed that song on a "Solid Gold" Christmas special. She was actually singing "Angels We Have Heard on High" but when she got to the "Gloria" part ...

The local AC station I hear the Level 42 song on (only during their 80s lunch) plays the original.

What about Kim Carnes' "Bette Davis Eyes?"  Gin Blossoms?  "Follow You Down" seems like it would fit.  There are so many different songs AC could play instead of "I Will Always Love You" and "Every Breath You Take" over and over.

Are you sure?

Maybe you've never heard the original. The background instruments cannot clearly be heard, and there are no pauses in the vocals, when the words something about you" are played.
