#1 Song of 2010
« on: December 19, 2010, 09:53:39 AM »

I'm going to go waaaay out on a limb and predict the #1 song of 2010 will be California Gurls by Katy Perry.  Since this is the Atlanta board, I'll say it will be #1 in the ATL as well as the country.

Does anyone think I'm right...or wrong?

Ha.  Shows what I know.  I would have guessed Hey Soul Sister for #2 but not Breakeven.

I predict that before this thread is over Kanye West will break in and give us his opinion.   Grin

Damn, I thought Usher "OMG" would've made the cut.

I just looked at the Billboard year-end chart.  OMG was #5.  California Gurls, which I predicted would be #1, was #4.  Hey, Soul Sister was #2, not a surprise, and Need You Now was #3, also not a surprise.  But I never would have expected Tik Tok to be #1.

California Gurls was #9 for the year on Star 94, #11 for the year on Q100, and #20 for the year on Wild 96.7

On both Q100 and Wild, Teenage Dream was bigger

Me too, but the more I think about it I heard "Unthinkable" way more on the radio than "OMG" still.

Oh gosh I take back what I said about 2010-2019 being the decade of improved music!
If Ke$ha "tik tok" is in the top 5, then... I change my decade prediction to 2011-2020.

Katy Perry doesn't exactly help too much, either.
Firework - bad vocals. California Gurls - poor lyrical content and wording arrangement. Her best release  from this album was "teenage dream", which, for some reason, seems to be getting "drowned out" by the other two. "I kissed a girl" was definitely her best.

I'd pick any... ok, most of those songs over tik tok for top song of the year deserving quality.

Anyway, I heard that Justin Bieber has the number one most viewed video of 2010 - and his song, "baby", which is what earned that spot, I also consider to be more quality than "tik tok". I think Ke$ha's best songs were

1. We R who we R, and
2. Right round (w/ Flo Rida).

Most played isn't the same as #1 song of the year.  Tik Tok and others were added in Jan/Feb and played through the whole year in recurrent rotation.  It's not a fair fight for a song that came out in summer.  While Ke$ha had a big year, I don't think anyone would debate that Katy Perry smoked her in sales and impact.

Personally, I think Roddy's pick of California Gurls is good for the song of the year.  It was the summer anthem and set up the Katy CD for massive sales and downloads.

Most played or best song?  The debate may rage...or not.  Smiley
