93.9 WMIA is gone? - now playing Christmas tunes
« on: November 20, 2010, 11:14:41 PM »

According to a post in the Miami boards, 93.9 MIA has just gone all-Christmas, with some rumors that rhythmic AC may not be not coming back. Surprisingly though, the jocks are still on the station...

Ouch.
This doesn't look good, since Clear Channel has killed off/transformed a lot of its R/AC's (WISX/Philadelphia, KSYU (now KLQT)/Albequerque, WWVA/Atlanta, WDTW/Detroit) this year....I don't see how all-Christmas fits in with Rhythmic AC.  Gene Autry, Carpenters, Bing Crosby?  Really?  Maybe with AC but not R/AC.  I see Josh Groban on the homepage.  Undecided
It is interesting that they kept "feel good" in the positioner and the DJ's.  Perhaps WMIA will come back with a tweaked format, like WISX in Philadelphia?  All rhythmic AC signs are pretty much gone from the website except for "feel good."

Update: there is now a banner on the website saying "Your favorite music is back this Sunday!!! Now MORE variety that makes you feel good!"

Looks like rhythmic AC is coming back, but probably tweaked?

This is exactly what WISX in Philly did. They kept saying "now even MORE variety to make you feel good!" as they continued to add Hot AC songs.

It looks like WMIA is shifting to Hot AC. One has to wonder if its to keep listeners from checking what is being played over at 93.1...

It looks like WMIA is returning to its Rhythmic Hot AC direction. Chances are that their foray towards Hot AC was a dud, which may explain the Christmas stunting.

Rhythmic Hot AC. Funny you say that. I've thought that is what is the perfect format name for a station like WISX. But if you think about it, it really makes no sense.

WMIA's playlist looks just about exactly the same as before.
