Smooth 87.7
« on: December 28, 2010, 10:54:33 AM »

Notice that 87.7 no long is Smooth Jazz 87.7. The play list is more R&B and less jazz. More vocals and less jazz lately. Anyone notice or know why?

You bet I've noticed -- and stopped listening. It's all about targeting younger listeners, whom research has found don't generally relate to instrumental music.

They would be wise to ditch Broadcast Architecture and program the station locally... Alan Kepler is a moron. Don't believe me? Just take a look at the demise of the format under BA's direction. Save the consulting fees, and let Danae Alexander pick the music. Danae IS Chicago.

And did you notice? The latest monthly ratings that came out just this afternoon showed a significant drop in the number of people listening to WLFM. I, for one, was not at all surprised. They've moved from delivering a unique product to one that's all too similar to what's available elsewhere on the dial.

Alan Kepler "must have pictures" ... that's the only logical explanation.

I see that Pat Kelley is out as GM of WLFM.

He probably made the fatal mistake of questioning the tactics of Kepler and the other empty suits at Broadcast Architecture. I know of at least one major market SJ PD who "lived in fear" of the BA team on a daily basis. My question was always the same:

"Why? Do you have that little confidence in your own skills?"

I gave them a listen and decided that I do not like the change. This situation may be short lived anyway, as there indications the FCC is preparing to deal with "Franken FM's" in the relatively near future.

Maybe....after the "Franken FM" is dealt with by the FCC...the Smooth Jazz format will end up on another station...say....hmmmm...101.1 FM .
