Meredith Likely Leaving Today Show

The New York Times reports Meredith Viera is thinking of leaving in September when her contract is up.  Reportedly she doesn't like the early morning wake-up calls.

This creates an opening if Katie were to want to come back.

UPDATE: Hollywood Reporter and TV Guide are also reporting this.  Hollywood Reporter mentions Ann Curry, Natalie Morales, Savannah Guthrie and Erin Burnett as possible heirs to the spot held by Katie, Jane Pauley, Barbara Walters, Maureen O'Sullivan, Florence Henderson and Lee Meriwether.

Wouldn't blame her.  Her success as a game show host (Millionaire, two different versions that usually air back to back), has been impressive.  She has demonstrated that she is quite talented whatever she takes on.

I seem to remember that her husband has major health problems.  Perhaps she need to spend more time dealing with them.  After all, I doubt she needs the money.

Hers is definitely a unique personality, that's for certain. Whether she decides to continue her career as a game show host, and not a talk show host, is her call.
