FMextra SCA technology
« on: June 18, 2005, 11:26:11 PM »

Bext. Armstrong, and others are promoting FMextra.  Uses SCA area to broadcast 164 bit encoder allowing 4 mono channels or 2 stereo channels.  Instead of IBAC (In Band Adjacent Channel) this is On Channel.

After the lukewarm response to HD radio (tm) because of coverage and receiver manufacturer response, what are the prospects?

Data indicates the units (listing for 9k) can alos be used to inject more signals into a mono carrier for multiple program streams.

The ability to use 100% of an FM channel as opposed to 10% seems too good to be true. Waiting on receiver tests and further data.

Prosepects are good, but limited.

Makes a good system if you have a subscription SCA service, if someone is willing to built inexpesnvie radios.

Limited because it will not be a broadcast type service, and only really useful in moetropolitan areas where there are specialized interests to serve (e.g.--foreign language narrowcasts)
