Fred Winston,  Ron Britain, John Landecker, Lujack would do it for me.  I agree that Danny Lake brings it on with fun energy and I could listen to him everyday and there is nobody but nobody like Dick Biondi!  A few others maybe Captain Wammo, Connie Szersen, Stu Collins, Doug Dalgren etc...

Modern tuners have digital readouts and wouldn't people tend to confuse "95" with "95.5"?

Only stations with long established brand names tend to round off their dial position number.  In NY, WHTZ still uses the brand "Z-100" though it's dial position is 100.3.  97.1 is still known as "Hot 97".  Those are just two examples of brand names that are so ingrained in listeners' minds that it's not worth changing them to accommodate digital tuners. MusicRadio WLS needs to be on The Big 8-9-0.  Folks that are interested (read:  folks over 50) would be more inclined to tune there.

AGREED!

It would help even more if the FCC ordered all IBOCrap turned off, but that's a subject for another board.
I was pleasantly surprised when i tuned into WLS and found them broadcasting in AM stereo!

Add more local talent to replace Shannon.

x2!

Also, as a specialty show, I'd love to see AT40, The Seventies show up sometime over the weekend on WLS-FM.  That would be a perfect fit.  Better than the same ol' TOC programming.
I love Casey Kasem's AT40 from the seventies and listen to it online several times over the weekend.  Here is the link to the station (now up to 66 in number) that play the show.

I remember:
FM 100, 94 Lake, 102 WCLR, Q101, B96, Magic 104, Z 95, US 99
Now with digital dial setting so many went into their actual settings. I enjoyed the way it use to be.
I never had problems finding my station.

In Louisville, we used to have a station billed as 96 QMF, but when digital radio became popular it rebranded itself as 95-7 QMF.  I think people were tuning into 96.1 WSTO in Evansville and listening to the same kinda music, but couldn't understand why the reception was so bad.

OK, if the FM ain't broke, what do they do with the talk format on AM?  Let it die once Don & Roma and Rush retire in another 5 years or so?

And which one bills better - AM or FM, or do both bill well?  That's what really counts, isn't it?

The billing is about $16 million for AM, $13 milllion for FM. The top billing AM in the market did $42 million last year and the top music FM did $31 million; Spanish language WOJO bills nearly double what WLS FM bills.

Nobody in Chicago will ever hire Ron Britain again after what he pulled at RealOldies 1690.

I would have no problem with that.
With all the syndication that is taking place with talk radio anymore, I think it might not be a bad idea either. I feel that many if not most clear channel AMs have become bereft of innovation; especially those with talk formats. The factors which would need to be addressed would include; first, would the audience listen to oldies or other music format on AM again? Second, would it be possible for the station to utilize a high-quality (or relatively high-quality) transmission standard? Third, could the station provide for a diverse enough playlist to have enough of a draw?

At some point in the future it's going to come down to is there any format that is still viable on AM or is the owner better off selling the land that the towers are planted on.  We're already seeing this in other countries.
