BLOCK looking to bail out Salem?
« on: April 13, 2011, 10:56:43 AM »

I heard a rumor that BLOCK is looking at jumping into the radio biz with stations in Louisville and Pittsburgh.

Could they pick up WFIA-A/F and WGTK-A?  What could they possibly pick up in Louisville to compliment WDRB and WMYO?

Maybe 105.9 since WAY FM is now on 93.9. I've been wondering how long WAY FM will simulcast on 105.9.

How could I forget 1450 AM (silent for over 8 months now!) I think 105.9 and 1450 could be a pretty good combo.

I wonder if Fox-41 is looking to get into the radio news business?

Huh

Oh come on. That's in Shelbyville. Their 1 mV contour doesn't even make it to the Snyder freeway.

Isn't still on "Aloha" or whatever it is?

101.7 was (and presumably still is) put into the Aloha Trust established by Clear Channel.  As far as I know no deal has been reached for the station.

The Bloch (dba Block) interests would probably be good operators for the AMs, given their good management of the WDRB/WMYO duopoly over their years of ownership.

This reminds me of when WLKY/Pulitzer owned WLKY-AM 970...when Hearst-Argyle bought the TV station, they spun off the AM despite pleas from the Louisville management and staff to keep it as an all-news complement to the TV. It had very respectable ratings and a healthy client list, but Hearst was only into TV acquisition and spun off WLKY-AM to Salem.
