They don't usually do extremely well, but have done well enough to co-exist for years: B106.7 (AC) and Magic 98.5 (Classic Hits) in Columbia, SC.
Magic 98.5 is actually oldies. When you distinguish between the two, Magic is on the oldies side.

As carolinaradio mentioned earlier in this topic, another CBS's AC WLTE/Minneapolis-St. Paul is doing very bad as well. It is also mentioned by Ken over a new topic as well.

Correction. I was just on the SC board and the statement was made that they threw the 60s under the bus.

Since KVIL & WLTE have such low ratings for a soft AC format, are they going to flip to Christmas music this week, but no format change coming? So that means things will stay the same after Christmas is over. Am I right?

This thread is kinda old, but KVIL still continues to struggle.  They had a bump from Christmas but it didn't last long.  15th in the market just under a 3 share.

This station is one of the only AC's I know of that has played Gotye and Cobra Starship.  Maybe they're trying to be too uptempo?  If things don't improve, I wonder if CBS will toast it like they did WLTE in Minneapolis.

I thought they had a bump from Christmas because they dropped 70s music, but it didn't turned out that way and their numbers starting to slip back down again.

They updated their playlist last month adding a lot of upbeat songs to their playlist, different from what their playlist update last year. They added stuffs like "Tonight Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae, "Semi-Charmed Life" by Third-Eyed Blind, and "Second Chance" by Shinedown, "Misery" by Maroon 5, "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)" by Beyonce, "Hey Baby" and "Hella Good" by No Doubt, "Hey Ya" by Outkast, "Only Girl (In The World)", "We Found Love (f/ Calvin Harris)", and "S.O.S" by Rihanna, "Sexyback" by Timberlake, "You Give Love A Bad Name" by Bon Jovi, "Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)" by Journey, "Cruel Summer" by Banarama, "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger, "What Is Love" by Haddaway, and "Let The Music Play" by Shannon, etc. It seems like they added a lot of Hot AC contents to their playlist except for "Cruel Summer", "Sister Christian", "What Is Love", "Let The Music Play", and such.

I thought KVIL's new playlist update which sounds much more upbeat than what they've been sounding like should have brought their numbers up, but it turned their numbers down. Hmm... Huh

Lol, KVIL has made WLTW too easy listening. Cheesy WLTW is nothing compared to KVIL now. Our local AC here in the DFW market is the most aggressive AC in the nation now, WLTW isn't anymore.

It sounds like DFW doesn't have an AC anymore.

Uuuuh, B98.5 in Atlanta, might as well be the most agressive AC.

From 4am-5am: 2 80s songs, 1 90s song, 4 "NOW" songs.  It is sad, isnt it.

Everybody says they hate Cumulus. Well, they did just launch an almost perfect All-News station in the ATL. Now that takes some skill. #GoMcVayAndDickey

Most Cox AC's are aggressive including WEZN-FM/Bridgeport, WFLC aka WFEZ's sister in Miami, and WWRM aka WDUV's sister in Tampa. Unlike B98.5 (WSB-FM), WEZN-FM and WFLC has always been positioned as 80s, 90s, and Now/Today's since 2008 or possibly even before that. Seems like B98.5 and WWRM are Cox's last AC's to drop 70s music back in 2011.

Cox's Classic Hits are also very aggressive, they sounds like Classic Rock.

Yeah, it is sad. Although I'm glad to see WMGF/Orlando taking a softer AC approach last year after they dropped Premium Choice. I remember they start to sound really aggressive when they adopted Premium Choice.

Unlike KVIL/DFW, my hometown's AC KMGL/Oklahoma City still plays 2-3 70s per hour, KODA/Houston also still plays 2-3 70s per hour like KMGL.

It sounds like DFW doesn't have an AC anymore.
Well, KVIL is still DFW's official AC though, but I don't listen to KVIL much anymore except when I'm in my car. I stream AC's from other cities including KMGL, WLYF, WMGF, and WLMG on my iPod Touch through Wi-Fi when I'm at home and at college.

WWRM is the least aggressive of the Cox mainstream AC's unless it's changed in the past few weeks.  I actually think they have a good variety.

My personal opinion is that the AC format needs to move on from the 70s (unless they are one of the softer ones) since that format is already represented on Adult Hits, Classic Hits, and Classic Rock.  What about the 90s?  Except for Adult Hits, that decade doesn't get much attention since Hot AC moved on from it.  Cox's AC stations moved on from the 70s (as did B-101 in Philadelphia for example) and started putting some more emphasis on the 90s.  I think it sounds good.
