Channel 6 question
« on: November 11, 2005, 03:34:20 PM »

Does anyone here remember what date Channel 6 officially changed its call letters from WFIL-TV to WPVI-TV in 1971?

Also was channel 6 still known as WFIL-TV for a time after Capital Cities took over ch 6,or did they change their call sign the day Cap Cities took over ch 6?

Also I think there might have been 3 versions of the well remembered This is Philadelphia sign on from ch 6 that ran from 1969-90.

The original was probably done in late 1969 with the 60s triangle 6 logo.

The second one in 1970 when the BIG 6 logo premiered.

And the last one which ran until late 1990 im sure premiered the day it became wpvi-tv.

Also one more thing I think ch 6's original weather guy francis davis left ch 6 in the summer of 1971 probably shortly after it became wpvi-tv.

Anyone have the lowdown on the early months of WPVI-TV and the status of announcers etc?
