Now that CBS has decided to end the talk format on KIKK 650, what's next for this 250 watt daytimer? I'm know the brokered programs are already making their moves as well as others on that frequency. Friday July 1st will be the last day.

They just announced the last day for the Talk 650 morning show. The last day is June 10. Is this also a brokered program?

Brent Clanton on his Facebook this morning said, "Yeah...CBS is killing the format at the end of the month; my last show here is July 1."

my heart aches for 650 to start "swingin'" again. Full time. Not this start at 4pm nonsense. If classical can make a comeback on a fulltime basis, why can't the Standards, at least during the day?

First thought is that CBS will broker out the entire broadcast day to a single programmer, who, if such is the case, probably already has a deal in place.

Turning it into an automated jukebox would be cheap, but wouldn't draw flies for ratings.

Or maybe they are tired of fooling around with a 250 watt daytimer, and will take it dark and put it up for sale.

Ultimately, if anything useful is ever going to be done with this station, it will need a more powerful signal with nighttime service, which will involve a frequency change and construction of a new transmitter/antenna facility--not cheap, but it can be done--witness KGOW.

Brent Clanton said this morning that CBS Houston told him that his show would end as of July 1, 2011. He said he had just finished his vacation time
when he was given the bad news that his show would be no more. He said is now having to look for a new home for his radio show. Dose Brent Clanton lease time on the station?

I doubt that China Radio International would pick up a third AM, but they do like to pop up unannounced at the beginning of the month. Somebody's obviously buying the full day.

What else could you do with it and make money?

There's really nothing you can do with a daytime station in a major market that's going to get decent ratings/billing.

Why not play on the station's heritage (and the fact that WSM comes in pretty clear on a good night) and go classic country?

One of Cleverly's minions is claiming that her show will continue on the frequency after the format change. Either she didn't get the memo, or not every show is out. We'll see!

Brent deserves better than this. I hope he winds up somewhere else in Houston. The UH news station could be an opportunity.
