EPM decides not to renew any DUQ staff
« on: June 15, 2011, 10:36:13 PM »

According to an email I received today, all current WDUQ staff will be let go by Dusquene University on June 30, and none of them is being sent offers from Essential Public Media.  It sounds like this includes jocks, newsreaders and back-office staff.

That's not true.  I am aware of at least four people who will be retained.  Others are still involved in discussions with EPM.  Several are retiring, or have already retired, from Duquesne University.  Two have been informed there will be no place for them at the new station.

Are these four DJs, newsreaders, or office?

The Post-Gazette reports today that 11 staffers are being retained by EPM.  They include Bob Studebaker.  I apologize for the incorrect info. last week.

The initial stories in the Trib and P-G, and likely the release from Essential Public Media, were misleading.  P-G has an updated story this morning.  Seven people have been hired.  Big difference from 11.  Abraham, Bahl, Plaskett and Saluja are volunteers, at least in their roles as hosts.  Plaskett was employed by DUQ, but not to do his show.  He has retired from his paid position.

So does that mean there will be some hires? Considering that DUQ will be working out of the WYEP studios, perhaps there will be some further consolidation?

One of the articles mentioned something about requiring interns...I wonder if WDUQ will rely more on them and less on paid staff as they get off the ground??

Does anyone on here have insight on whether the staff will grow past 7?
