It's better they cancelled their show. Going on your own isn't always a good thing - the aforementioned Beatstock has changed it's weekends, changed to crappy inconvenient venues, and has a rehashed lineup of the past, with nothing new... I for one will not be attending for the first time in who knows how long. Beatstock is no long Metro NY's concert.

I kept hoping for another NIRVANA but it hasn't happened - rock is in worse shape than it was in 1990 and that is saying something.

I think Six Flags is a better concert venue. And it hasn't been completely abandoned by radio. Party FM is sponsoring the Long Island event, Wired 96.5, B98.5, Z88.9, and Pulse 87 are promoting the Six Flags event. So instead of one station, this year there are 5 stations promoting Beatstock.

Makes me think about how Pulse 87 is now Internet-only... I suppose a Internet-only WRXP probably won't be in existence, much less sponsor the festival had that still been in existence.

It's too bad they cancelled the show. It might have helped drag in more listeners. It's getting harder and harder to find a radio station to listen to, if your a rock fan. Classic rock is fine but it shouldn't be the only game in town. Top 40 and lite music gets boring. There is a way to blend new rock with old rock. It's called knowing the music and "painting a picture" for the listener. Every band/song was new at some point, until someone took a chance and played their music on the radio. Lot's of great music still being made. New York is a rock town. It's FM radio that shuts it out. How does an industrial band from Germany (Rammstein) sell out the garden (with virtually no airplay) if NY is not a rock town?

You're right "TheWitch" NYC is not a rock town, but Los Angeles is a rock town. If you look at the rock stations in the past, it was "K-Rock" that got right in the nose until Stern's departure, flips to "Free-FM" and then lasted for a year and a half until it went back to "K-Rock" for another year and then flips to "Now". "Q104.3" is not going anywhere, it's the only rock station in the area. Look at other rock stations outside of New York City including the Hudson Valley listening area. You've got WPDH, WDST and WBPM. WBPM is a station that plays "Classic Hits" with a lot of rock leaning in there, but it doesn't seem to play Michael Jackson, the Supremes, Madonna, Prince, Earth, Wind & Fire, Marvin Gaye and a few others not too many. And speaking of rock, you've got "Fox Oldies" at 98.9 which is WGNY-FM plays a lot of great classic oldies like the old CBS-FM from the 80's and 90's back when Joe McCoy was a program director until he left back in 2004. It has a lot of 50's and early 60's pre-Beatles music thrown in. "Fox Oldies" has the best personalities like Van Ritschie, Joe Manglass, Bob O and Buffalo Bob. Those are the people of "Fox Oldies".
To get back on the rock thing, if you want rock music on these four stations like WAXQ, WPDH, WDST and WBPM, go right ahead. They got internet streaming there to listen to.

I liked RXP but in my opinion, it jumped the shark as a rock station when it started playing Adelle "Rolling in The Deep Pandering to the charts is sad. Why? *Adele* is an established AAA act and she will never be mistaken for Gaga or Katy Perry. Or did you want RXP to be a RAWK station like WSOU? Adele is an AC and CHR artist and is far from Alt Rock, or whatever the RXP mix is. A man turing on RXP wants Foo Fighters, Nirvana..not Adele. Tre, she is not Katy Perry so she isn't hot either. Fail

Ok, if a man turning on RXP wants Foo's and Nirvana, where can a female hear Foster the People, White Lies, Cage The Elephant, Beady Eye and newer alt music?? BTW a female may want to hear Foo's and Nirvana too. It's 2011. That's another reason rock radio stinks in NYC. Just because you're over 30-35 doesn't mean you automatically switch to lite music! disney fanatic, my post said NYC is a rock town.

How about a Modern AC in NYC? That might fare better than a straight Modern Rock format... and BTW WRRV does not reach NYC proper either (its signal is blocked by WQBU on Long Island )
