Who's firing up the turntables for the 4th?

traveling right now back to ATL and from what I hear lots of stations not mixing.   96.3 WJIZ outta Albany,Ga mixing but sounds recorded.  Obviously Steve Hegewood's POWER 105.5 is off the air since he sold the staion I think for an AM in Atlanta (something fishy with that swap).  Macon's POWER 107.1/WFXM is live in the mix tearin it up!!!!!  Buc, did the ATL djs repp on K104?

Man Shawty did they!  This was the best mix weekend K104 has had so far.  Even though most of it was pre-recorded, and our main mixer, Steve Nice was in New Orleans, it was done right.  I've heard lots of music I've never heard before. Dj Khaled, Dj Drama, and Dj Scream did their thing, but I was most impressed with Dj Smallz. Listening to his mixtapes, had no ideal he could actually mix.  Our local Dj's held it down too.  They are still mixing.  I think it ends at midnight.  Props to George Cook for putting this together.  A+

Now on the other hand, the station that brought the mix weekend to the DFW has been a major disappointment.  97.9 The Beat has been destroyed by their PD.  Everything I liked about that station, no longer exist.  Damn shame.... F+

I'm hoping hip hop and r&b are making a comeback.  I just can't get down with that electro-pop stuff. So I guess Phoenix is not doing anything for the 4th.

Me neither, Power 106 is starting to lean heavily on Hip Hop & R&B once again and surprisingly is giving electro pop tracks less spins. Frank Ocean's Novacane sounds good, it sounds like the progressive neo-soul movement of the 90's & Early 2000's that once dominated Urban Contemporary radios despite the drug references and excessive explicit language and Power 106 is acknowledging it. Chris Brown's She Ain't You sounds great also. With that said Hip Hop & R&B is back with a vengeance.

I'm hoping hip hop and r&b are making a comeback.  I just can't get down with that electro-pop stuff. So I guess Phoenix is not doing anything for the 4th.

I'm not sure if hip hop and r&b will make a full come back to how it was during its best times. If anything, I think rock and alternative will make a come back during the next generation (when today's kids grow up and have kids) because rock and alternative have pretty much been "the underdog" these days. I just think that there have been quite a bit of new quality hip hop and r&b releases due to the fact that people are waking up and realizing that there must be a change to bring back real hip hop and r&b and are also taking action to make it happen instead of just continuing to talk about how bad its gotten and doing nothing about it. I don't think the electro dance stuff is going anywhere soon (because remember back when disco died, it only lead to other forms of dance (house, trance, booty bass...etc.) to evolve from it, which I believe is what will happen again...).

Hip hop will survive and probably remain independently strong (like country), but I doubt that it will dominate again like it once did in the U.S. This electro-pop phase on the other hand, unless some changes are made and people start becoming more creative with the electro-pop beat patterns and evolving with time, I can see it burning out like reggaeton did. But then again, look how long house music has survived overseas- and house typically consists of identical beat patterns! So, with that being said, who knows what will happen. I guess as long as melodies are well done, it doesn't matter how many songs have the same beat structure... I don't mind dance staying - as long as producers/artists decide to release quality electro with quality production and lyrics with various beat patterns. One thing I do doubt is that hip hop will fall from top 40 as much as rock and alternative has today, anytime soon.

I wonder if bass will come back? Everything seems to have gone all house. I thought that Flo rida, Jay Sean, and Black Eyed Peas would start a whole new generation of bass, but then they all went house, too. ...

wild 102.9 bumsquad dj's are on fire again. for independece day. dj rickgee dj twist dj pressure dj creativity dj ecto 1 and dj happs. they are killin it for over 40 hrs in the mix are hot 97.5 in vegas is not killing too much bullshit talk. i am pretty sure the vegas djs got skill the problem kvegs is a small company wild 102.9 is a big company citeldel broadcasting owns alot of radio stations in the united states.

Ok i have to vent a little, because 97.9 the box here in houston barely did A DAMN THING for the weekend!!! They just did the little mini-mixes like they usually do every weekend, but only mixed rihanna... and some of her songs, I'm not really a fan of. Generally, houston sounded pretty lame on the radio. No non-stop holiday mixes on the radio like other cities were very lucky to have.  That's why we need a 2nd urban station here, so 97.9 can step up their game. Competition is good for all stations.

On a much ligher note, i did listen to the mix on K104 Dallas online. They were doing the damn thing on those turntables, for sure!!!

I remember the bass movement from the mid 90's. Remember the Quad City DJ's C'mon N' Ride It(The Train) from 1996 Ghost Town DJ's My Boo from 1996, INOJ Love You Down from 1997 and KP & Envyi's Swing My From 1998. Those hits got a lot of spins on Power 106, KGGI, and 92.3 The Beat back in the 90's great music. The only good song Black Eyed Peas put out was Joints & Jams from 1998. Black Eyed Peas Joints & Jams got some great spins on KGGI, Power 106 and 92.3 The Beat in 1998 and I downloaded it on Saturday and it still sounds hot & fresh as if it came out yesterday. Can you say slept on. Shocked as heck . Hip Hop & R&B will always have a place on the radio.
