Milwaukee Drops the Jim Rome Show for a out of work local hack...?
« on: July 31, 2011, 07:21:48 PM »

Listening to the JR Show and one caller said a new Tool I mean Program Director brought his buddy and out of work local talker. WTF. Sounds like career suicide.

Are they talking about Doug Russell? I know he was just recently let go in Milwaukee..not sure if he was on a different station. If it's him, he's far from a hack. Although in Rome's mind, he probably feels he has no equal. I for one would agree with that statement...............in.........1998.

All in all, I imagine Rome is on all over Wisconsin and Illinois and I doubt this is much of a setback. He should be concerned more about his absence in Top 10 cities..which he only clears in about half.

So just to edit my previous post (but it won't let me), this has nothing to do with Doug Russell. Although, he was on the same station but was let go 4 or 5 weeks ago. They are choosing to go local with a guy named Bill "The big unit" Michaels who I guess has made the rounds through the various stations in the city before. So they could be tied together since releasing Russell freed up that available salary since all they did was give a producer a larger role on his former show.

Meanwhile on facebook..

the 100 or so people who give a damn I'm sure will yell and scream and call the studio only to make board op/producers lives miserable studio for the next couple of days...then they'll move on..they always do.

OK..so whose idea is it to rip on radio guys for being "out-of-work" when its common knowledge that most radio people, regardless of format are "out-of-work" at one point or another?

And BTW- Michaels isn't out of work anymore.

I would be highly upset if they took Rome off in my market for a local Hack. New PD Russell has lot of nerve. Hope he fails

What were Rome's numbers in Milwaukee? He is very polarizing and VERY hard to sell in a lot of markets. This may have been a situation where they weren't making money on Rome, so they went in a different direction.

I know of at least three stations that have dropped Rome because they couldn't sell him to local advertisers. His is not a show that a lot of local advertisers want to identify with.

But again, you made this post, how was Rome doing in the ratings there?
